PART 4 THE THRONE OF DAVID
The Premillenial Proposition: That Jeus is not now king, nor does he sit on his throne as promised to David.
Postponement Theory: The throne is literal and earthly.
THIS IS OUR PROPOSITION: Word by Word Examination is called for.
A. Jesus Christ.
l. "Jesus", "Lord of Salvation"-"Lord" implies rulership. "Christ", "Anointed",
Anointed to be what? KING!
2. It is argued that David was anointed before he was king. So with Jesus - But Jesus
claimed to have Authority( Matt. 28:18; Col. 3:17 ) and exercised it.
( Luke 24:47 & Acts 2:38 ) ( I Tim. 6:l4-l6; Heb. 2:9 ).
B. Jesus Christ Is King.
l. If there is no Kingdom, Jesus is not a King. If one was Postponed, the other was too.
2. Jesus announced kingdom at hand ( Mk. 1:14-l5 ) His integrity is at Stake.

( Dan. 2:44 ) ( Mark 1;14-l5; Heb. 12:28 )

C. Jesus Christ is King on a Throne.
l. Premillennial Position - literal throne - ignores figurative language.
a. Christ- "Shoot" "Stock" "Root" of Jesse.
b. John to build a "highway"
c. Jesus called Herod a "fox"
d. Paul warned of grievous wolves.
2. King of what throne - literal? on earth?
a. Paul's declaration says NO"- ( 2 Cor. 5:16 )
b. ( Acts 7:49 ) Come to a lesser throne?
c. ( Jer. 22:30 ) Coniah's descendent.
d. ( Jno. 18:36 ) NOT of this world.
A. The Throne Of David
l. David's throne promised ( Isa. 9:6-7 ) fulfilled ( Luke l:32-33 )
2. No other throne. God's throne is David's throne is Solomon's
a. In the absolute sense David had no throne - it belonged to God.
b. Solomon sat on his own throne ( l Kings l:46-48 )
Solomon sat on David's throne ( l Kings 2:12 )
But he also sat on God's throne ( l Chron. 29:23 )
c. Jesus sits on this throne. No present or future throne.
3. David's Temporal throne typifies the heavenly - Refers to rulership.
B. The Seed Of David ( Acts 13:23 )Apostolic emphasis on "seed" to establish Jesus in
David's lineage and right to the throne.
l. What promise? ( 2 Sam. 7:l2-l4; Heb. l:5 )
a. Objective: This passage makes Jesus a sinner ( Isa. 53 2 Cor. 5:21 )
b. When would David's seed be set up? When thy days are fulfilled and
David sleeps with his fathers.
c. David now sleeps - at 2nd coming David will be raised - All agree to
this - But seed to occupy throne while David sleeps.
d. ( Acts 2:29-30 ) Peter's application - David now sleeps - applies time
to resurrection. Peter's application ( vs. 33 ff )
C. The Sure Mercies of David ( Isa. 55:3 )
l. New Covenant - Sure Mercies.
2. Paul's application ( Acts 13:32-38 ) The Resurrection.
3. Peter makes same application of same passage - His lordship connected in
( Acts 2 ).

l. "Until he comes whose right it is."

The Branch- to sit and rule ( Isa. 11:1, 10 ) ( Rom. 15:12 ) Christ the Branch
A. Christ and The Branch - Christ to do several things at the same time
l. Build Temple - done ( Eph. 2:21-22 l Cor. 3:16 ).
2. Sit ( Acts 2:34 ) and rule upon his throne ( Heb. 1:3, 8 Eph. l:20-23 )
3. He shall be s priest upon his throne ( Heb. 4:14 ) NOW.
a. ( Heb. 4:14 ) High Priest Now.
b. ( Heb. 8:4 ) Not on the earth.
c. High priest on his throne; therefore, throne not on earth.
4. After the order of Melchizedek ( Heb. 6:20 5:6-10 Psa. 110:4 ).
a. Who was Melchizedek? ( Heb. 7:l-3 ) Priest and King.
B. Christ and Melchizedek ( Heb. 7:1-3 )
l. King of Righteousness and peace - Qualities of his rule.
2. Typifies Christ's Rule
a. No Predecessor or Successor.
b. King and priest at once.
c. Kingdom characterized by right and peace.
C. Christ and His Throne ( Rev. 3:21 ) He now sits.
A. Resurrection, "then cometh the end."
B. The Abolition of Death
l. ( Acts 2 ) Christ reigns now
2. ( l Cor. 15 ) Reigns till the resurrection - Not after.
3. Some argue 2 resurrections - but Jesus is in heaven at God's right hand, Not on an
earthly throne until the last dead person is raised. Then comes the end. Where does
the earthly reign come in?
B. The Destruction Of Satan's Power. ( Heb. 2:14; 1 Jno. 3:8 ).
Having Triumphed, Jesus said ( Matt. 28:18 )
l. ( Matt. 12:28-30 ) Binding and Spoiling the Strong Man ( Col. 2:13-15 ).
2. He has done this, hence kingdom is upon you.
3. The devil still seeks ( 1 Pet. 5:8 ) But we have power ( vs. 9 Jas. 4:7 )
C. The Day Of His Power( Psa. 110:1-4 ) Applied to Christ ( Heb. 5:10 ).
What happens on the day of his power?
l. He sits on God's right hand ( Heb. l:3 ).
2. He rules in the midst of his enemies ( Heb. l:8 Eph. 1:20f )
3. His people are willing subjects ( Rev. 22:17 )
He is priest after the order of Melchizedek ( Heb. 6:20 )
Therefore - Now is the day of his power or rule
