Backstreet Boys Announce Tour August 5, 1999

Backstreet Boys Announce U.S. Tour The Backstreet Boys have announced a 39-city North American tour, kicking off on Sept. 15 at the National Rental Car Arena in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

The band's latest album, Millennium has stayed in the No. 1 or No. 2 position on the charts since its release in May. The record has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide, including almost 4.5 million in the United States alone. Millennium set a record for single-week sales in the U.S., selling more than 1,134,000 copies in the first seven days it was on the shelves.

"Being that the album is titled Millennium, we're going to make the show a futuristic trip," Backstreet Boy Kevin Richardson told Wall of Sound upon the album's release. "We're calling it 'Into the Millennium,' and I think people are going to be really shocked when they see it. It's going to be like a journey; when you walk into the arena, there's going to be an atmosphere. I feel like we're going to take people somewhere." The two-hour show will be presented in the round, and will include almost 20 different songs.

Tickets for all shows on the Sears-sponsored tour go on sale Aug. 14, priced at $28.50 and $38.50, not including service charges.
