Just Friends: Chapter 15

Just Friends: Chapter 15

***Mandy’s Point of View***

I woke up with my eyes dry and burning. It must have been from crying. I couldn’t believe that Larissa thought I didn’t care. If I hadn’t cared I wouldn’t have came down for the funeral, and I wouldn’t have called her last night. I hated it when she was difficult like that. I looked over at Nick who was still sound asleep. He had a while before he needed to get up, so I put on some shorts and a t-shirt, and left him a note.

Dear Nick, I needed to think. I just went for a quick walk. I’ll be back soon. If you need me I have my pager. Love ya!

Love, Mandy

I left the note next to the bed, grabbed my pager, and the room key and took off. I exited the hotel and just started walking. I didn’t know where I was going, but I knew I would know it when I got there. I walked probably about a half mile, and stumbled across a park. I saw a bench, and sat down. As I sat down I looked back on my life. It was all Brian, Nick, Larissa, and Nicole. And Larissa thought I didn’t care. Maybe Nicole thought that too. At the thought of Nicole my eyes filled with tears. I looked back on the times I spent with Nicole, the sad times, funny times, everything. My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of someone walking up on me, I turned around and saw Nick.

“Hey!”, he said while sitting next to me.

“Hi.”, I responded.

“I’m sorry I’m here, but I was worried about you.”

“How did you know I’d be here?”

“Instinct.”, he said looking over at me seriously, “You know you have to talk to Brian. He thinks that he’s lost you.”

“Really?”, I said turning to look at him.

“Yeah, he misses you Mandy. He needs you in his life, and lately you haven’t.”

“Yes I have.”, I said, but then I thought about it, “Well, I guess you’re right.”

“Aren’t I always?”, he said with a laugh, “You know you better not have any plans for your birthday.”

“Oh really...maybe I already do!”, I said with a playful tone of voice.

“Oh well then I guess we can’t go out for dinner, take a walk, and then....”, he stopped and looked at me seductively, “Go back to the hotel room.”

“I’ve never seen you so seductive before Nickolas Gene!”, I said with a raise of my eyebrows.

“Get used to it!”, he said standing up, and pulling me up with him.

“I think I can!”, I said as I took his hand.

We walked back to the hotel room silently. But I felt like we were having the deepest conversation. As I got to the hotel room I sent Nick to Brian’s room to play video games. I had to talk to Larissa...now. I dialed her number, and waited for someone to pick up.

“Hello?”, Larissa said into the phone.

“This morning, I was looking back on my life and I saw only memories of me with you, Nicole, Brian, and Nick. Now tell me that I don’t care.”, I said. “Don’t even, you know I like having my brother in my life. He’s one the most special person in life!”, I yelled into the phone.

“What about Nick?”, she yelled back. “I have known Nick longer than I’ve known you! I’m sorry, last time I checked you could have three best friends!”, I yelled, I was getting really upset.

“Yeah, well, you can, but he’s been coming first lately.”

“You know what Larissa, go find yourself new best friends, you lost Nicole, and you just lost me!”, I yelled while slamming the phone down.

Instead of crying and running to Nick or Brian like I normally would have, I went into the minibar. I slowly took out all the alchol in there. I lined them up, and drank each one slowly. After each one I felt all the pressure being lifted off my shoulders, making me want the next one even more. When the last one was gone, I staggered out into the hall, and went next door. I was pretty sure it was Brian’s, I needed more alchol. I knocked and Nick answered.

“Hey Mandy!”

I looked at him and saw how hot he was. I wanted him so bad at that moment. I grabbed his arm and brought him back to our room. I pushed him onto the bed and began passionately kissing him.

“What the hell is wrong with you?”, he screamed looking at all the empty bottles.

“I got wasted! And now I want to sleep with you!”, I giggled, trying to get his pants off.

He didn’t say anything, he just picked me up and brought me next door. He layed me on the couch, and said something. I couldn’t tell what was happening, or what was being said. The last thing I remember was Nick saying how much he loved me. After that it all went blank.

***Nick’s Point of View***

“What the fuck are we going to do?”, I screamed at Brian who was trying to get Mandy awake.

“Screaming and yelling certainly won’t work. Call the front desk and tell them we’ve got a possible alcohol posioning.”, he said while splashing Mandy with cold water.

I didn’t think, I just did it.

“Front desk, how may we help you?”, a woman said into the phone.

“I’m in room 403, and I’ve got a possible alcohol poisoning, can I get an ambulance here, now?”, I said nervously.

“Certainly, they’ll be right there.”

I hung up the phone, and walked over to Mandy and Brian.

“Brian, what are we gonna do if we lose here?”, I choked out through my tears.

He looked over at me, and I saw his tears. He put his arm around my shoulder.

“We won’t lose here, I promise.”, he said.

All of a sudden the paramedictics came in and brought her out in a stretcher. Me and Brian followed after them, and went in the ambulance with them. We got to the hospital five minutes later. They brought her into the emergency room, and stopped me and Brian from going any farther.

“I’m sorry, you can’t go in there right now. Are one of you related to her? Because I need someone to fill out there forms.”, she said handing us a pile of forms, not waiting for an answer.

“This is bullshit! Why can’t we go in there?”, Brian screamed at the nurse.

I was surprised by Brian’s screaming. I mean, it was perfectly acceptable, this was his sister. But he had remained calm, while I had been the one screaming.

“C’mon Brian, let’s fill out these forms. The sooner we get them done, the sooner we can see her.”, I said leading Brian back to the waiting area, “You fill these out, and I’ll call the rest of them, and they can meet us here.”

I left Brian to fill out the forms, and found the closest phone. I dialed AJ’s cell phone, and waited for someone to pick up.

“Bone here!”, AJ said into the phone.

“AJ? It’s Nick, me and Brian are at the hospital. Something happened to Mandy, get here and we’ll explain.”, I said not wanting to spend any time explaining on the phone.

“OK man! We’ll be right there!”, he said and then hung up.

I walked back to the waiting area and I saw Brian working furiously to fill out the forms.

“You need any help?”, I asked sitting next to him.

He didn’t stop writing, just nodded his head no.

“It’ll be alright Brian...it’ll be alright!”, I said trying to calm him.

He stopped writing and looked up at me. His eyes were filled with tears.

“Now I know how you guys felt.”, he said letting his tears fall.

Before I could comfort him, the nurse came and said one person could go in. Brian quickly got up and ran to her room. Just then, AJ, Kevin, Howie, Leighanne, and Kat walked in. Before they could even ask what happened, I told them what I knew.

“But why did she?”, Leighanne said through her tears.

“I think because of Nicole and Larissa.”, I said.

Then I remembered she had made me leave because she wanted to call Larissa.

“I have to make a phone call.”, I said as I got up and went to the payphone once again, I had left my cell at the hotel.

I called information and got Larissa’s number. I wrote it down, and then dialed it. On the fifth ring someone picked up.

“Hello?”, Larissa said into the phone.

“What did you say to her?”, I said trying to stay calm, but I had an edge to my voice.

“Nick? What do you mean?”

“I mean, what did you say to Mandy to make her drink every single alcoholic drink in the minibar!”, I yelled into the phone.

“Oh my god...oh my god...”

“What the fuck did you say!?!?”, I screamed getting angry.

“I...I...said that I couldn’t handle you coming first.”

I was going to say something, but I couldn’t. I just slammed down the phone. I walked back over to everyone and sat down and cried. Leighanne and Kat sat down on either side of me and comforted me. While the rest of the guys did the same. No one said anything, we just sat there. Then the nurse came out.

“Your friend will be fine, just as long as there isn’t too much alchol in her diet anymore. We will let her out tonight, as long as her blood pressure stays good. One more person can go in and see here.”, the nurse said walking away as soon as she finished.

I quickly stood up, and ran into her room. I saw her sitting up with Brian at her side. I ran and gave her a hug.

“What were you doing?”, I asked through tears.

“I dunno....I’m so sorry Nick, and you too Brian.”, she said as we pulled away, “I just didn’t know how else to solve my little phone call with Larissa. This was the first thing I thought of, and I didn’t think what the effect would be.”

I just nodded remembering when I would turn to drinking to get rid of my problems. You never really thought about what would happen, you just kept knocking them down until you didn’t remember where you were, and why you were there.

“Just don’t scare us again.”, Brian said getting up, “I think I’ll leave you and Nick alone.”

He walked out, and I took the seat he was sitting in.

“You know the last thing I heard before I blacked out was you saying how much you love me.”, she said taking my hand.

“I do love you Mandy. I love you so much. And I don’t know what I would do without you.”, I said holding her in my arms.

And when I said that, I meant it.
