Boneyard Row

The Player shudders, giving you another peculiar look. "You're sure about that? There's enough nastiness on the living side of Canen without going to the graveyard, but if that's what you want...I know just the person to take you. No, I'm not scared. I prefer to think of it as 'wise'."

She does not give you a chance to reply to that but turns in a swirl of blue coattails, marching off to the east. You follow along, keeping an eye on the shadows. Is it just your imagination, or is there something following...?

The Player marches on straight through the bulk of Canen, which passes in a rather uniform grey blur until you start to catch glimpses of a low-ish wall, about twenty feet in height--significant, but only half as high as the Great Outer Wall or the Labyrinth wall--but black as pitch. The buildings, which had been packed together almost too tightly to breathe, begin to thin out and show serious signs of disrepair. Doors hang off hinges, gaping open to reveal naked interiors; black scorches around windowsills mark fire-gutted buildings. As you draw close to the Boneyard, even the unusual warmth of the Labyrinth begins to seep away, and a thin, chilly breeze rises to stir the dust on the path. You pass a brass plate rivetted to one wall, proclaiming this way to be Ghostwalker Street.

Finally, the black wall looms full in your vision, dominated by the towering gate wrought of some strange blue-white metal. It gleams eerily, its twining thorn-vines and roses reflecting the umber cloudlight. Through the gate, you can see the graveyard stretch out into darkness beneath the shadow of the Desert Wall. The Player glances back over her shoulder, scowling at you. "Don't tell me you want to go in there. I was gonna take you to Mordekye, if you have to satisfy your morbid curiousity. He runs the Mortuary and Crematorium."

You glance back through the gate, and the Player scowls again. "Hell, you can go in there, sure, but I'm not leading you. I only go so far."
