Anfernee Hardaway is a world class athlete as he is one of the best basketball
players to play in the NBA. This year he was hampered by nagging injuries,
but look for a healthy and determined Penny Hardaway next year.
ANFENEE'S HISTORY
Anfernee was born on July 18, 1971 in Memphis, Tennessee. His mother's
name is Fae Hardaway (currently Fae Patterson), and his father's name is
Eddie Golden. When he was young, he spent a lot of time with his
grandmother, Louise Hardaway. Penny went to Treadwell High School, and
later to the University of Memphis.
He played two seasons at Memphis St. and then turned pro, after making two
NCAA Tournament Appearances. He was chosen by the Golden State
Warriors as the third pick in the 1993 NBA Draft, and then traded to the
Orlando Magic for Chris Webber and 3 future draft picks. Anfernee started
all 82 games in the 1993-1994 NBA season. He was voted rookie of the month
in January, and came a close second behind Chris Webber for Rookie of the
Year. He was also named to the 1994 NBA All-Rookie team. Penny started in
his first All-Star Game in the 1994-95 season. In the 1994-95 season he also
helped the Orlando Magic to a home record of 39-2, and to their first Eastern
Conference Title and first NBA Final appearance. He started in the 1996
All-star Game and helped get the Orlando Magic to the playoffs again that
season.
