Persistent Offenses

STET District defines "persistent" to be two or more violations of the Code of

Conduct in general or repeated occurrences of the same violation.

Stet-ISD Discipline Management Plan

Assaults

Students are prohibited from assaulting anyone on school property or any school-related

event.

An assault is defined as

1. intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly causing bodily injury

to another person;

2. intentionally or knowingly threatening another with imminent

bodily harm; or

3. intentionally or knowingly causing physical contact with another

when the student knows or should reasonable believe that the other will regard the contact as offensive or provocative

.

Disruptions

Conduct by students either in or out of class which for any reason-whether because of time, place, or manner of behavior--materially disrupts class work, or involves substantial disorder or invasion of the rights of others is prohibited.

Student demonstrations and similar activities will be prohibited when there is evidence, which may reasonably lead school authorities to forecast substantial disruption of, or material interference with, normal school activities. The evidence must support a "reasonable forecast of substantial disruption" of school operations; "undifferentiated fear" or mere apprehension of disturbance is not sufficient to justify restrictions on students' otherwise legitimate right to freedom of expression.

Students who participate in any prohibited activities described above are subject to disciplinary action based on the severity of the violation and its overall effect upon the welfare of other students.

Dress Code

STET I.S.D.'s dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, instill discipline and pride, prevent disruption, avoid safety hazards, and teach respect for authority and self. Students should be dressed and groomed in a manner that is clean and neat, that does not distract, and that will not be a health and safety hazard to themselves or others.

The dress code prohibits any clothing or grooming that in the administration's judgment may reasonable be expected to cause disruption of or interference with normal school operations. The district forbids pictures, emblems, or writings that are lewd, offensive, vulgar, or obscene; that advocate violence or gang activity; or that promote tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs, or any other prohibited substance. The student and parent may determine the student's personal dress and grooming standards provided that they comply with these general guidelines and the district's dress code for students specified below.

Determination of dress code violation is at the discretion of the administration. If the administration concludes that a student's grooming, manner of dress, or accessories violate the dress code, the student will be given the opportunity to correct the problem at school. If the problem cannot be corrected, the student will be assigned to in-school suspension for the remainder of the day or until a parent or designee brings an acceptable change of clothing to school. Repeated offenses may result in more serious disciplinary action. Appropriate discipline procedures will be following in all cases.

Styles and fads come and go. It would be impossible to anticipate all changes before they appear in students' dress and grooming and to incorporate them in the dress code. It is therefore, at the discretion of the administration to adapt the dress code at any time to these changes.

The administration, in cooperation with a sponsor or other person in charge of an extracurricular activity, may regulate the dress and grooming of students who participate in the activity. Students who violate these standards may be removed or excluded from the activity for a period of time determined by the principal or sponsor and may be subject to other disciplinary actions.

Dress code rules are in effect any time a student is on school property or a school function and come under Level II discipline unless violations are persistent.

Drug/Alcohol Use

The use of illicit drugs and unlawful possession and use of alcohol is wrong and harmful. No student shall possess, use, transmit, or attempt to possess, use, transmit, or be under the influence of any of the following substances on school grounds or at any school-related activity, function, or event:

1. any controlled substance or dangerous drug as defined by state and federal law, without regard to amount, including but not limited to marijuana, any narcotic drug, hallucinogen, stimulant, depressant, amphetamine, or barbiturate.

2. alcohol or alcoholic beverage

3. any abusable glue, aerosol paint, or volatile chemical substance for inhalation

4. any other intoxicant or mood-changing, mind altering, or behavior-altering drugs, is including caffeine, pills, and other over-the-counter stimulants or sedatives.

The transmittal, sale, or attempted sale of what is represented to be any of the above listed substances id also prohibited under this policy.
