The fog settled in early this morning, and is only receding now, well after sunset - it is so strange. At it's thickest, you could make out shapes at about 20-30metres, and people would just emerge out of nowhere at you. Every so often one of the boats in the harbour would drone out it's fog horn, and the entire campus seemed unusually quiet. From what I can tell this isn't exactly common weather for Vancouver, so even if I don't see snow while I'm here, I'll be able to say I saw fog...exciting stuff...
So...
I have since I last wrote...finally seen Men in Black II, gone to Victoria, handed in and received back an assignment, ubelievably managed to sleep in until midday and miss a lecture...and that's about it.
Okay, so perhaps I've done a little more but I can't think of much at the moment. I tried Kraft Dinner. That may sound disgusting, and in all truth, it is. It is macaroni and cheese, in a box with powder cheese - it's like the two minute noodle phenomenon of Canada, they all love it, it's like a meal to these people. Someone left a box at my work on Monday night as a gift to our team leader (such a lovely guy I'm hardly surprised) and he decided that I needed it as I'd never tried it. I happened to return to red wine Monday in the lounge on my floor so both Melbourne Richard and I received our first taste of this Canadian delicacy.
Continuing to step backwards in time in my memory...ah yes, I played Risk on Saturday night with my pseudo brother floor (the brother floor of the floor I practically live on as all my friends live there..okay, long and complicated story that I shall explain if you really want me to but not right now.), and they really get into the game! For anyone who doesn't know, Risk is purely world domination in a board game - I was accused of cheating because I didn't throw the dice correctly! Talk about passionate about the game - apparently they had to ban playing Risk for a couple of months last year because it came to influence daily life to an unhealthy degree. To be honest, compared to these guys I'm just too nice, I was wiped off the board twice, twice! You wouldn't think it was possible...sad business this.
I went to ANOTHER ice hockey game last Friday - this time with people to explain the finer nuances of the game..not that there are many really, but it's nice to have someone there to tell you when to abuse the ref. I have really started getting into this hockey, it's so exciting. I am even watching professional games on TV, and for anyone who knows my television watching habits, they'll know I never watch sport (except for the occasional bit of cricket or racing but that's against my will I tell you!). Despite the fact that all those training me in the art of hockey are Toronto Leafs fans, I am making a stand for my temporary home town and am going to be a supporter of the Vancouver Canucks, I don't care how often they win..or don't win..but on a nicer topic, my friend's varsity team won their first game on Saturday night (not the night I was there, but still exciting). Plus the UBC football team won a game..also a definite improvement! (I think they may have even won two!).
Okay, enough mindless dribble from Sarah I can hear you all shouting, I shall tell you about Victoria - but on the next page (photos should be up within the weekend, hopefully!)
Until next time, take care.
Sarah
