Mary McClarion Nethery and John Nethery ~

John was born in 1826 in Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland, Mary McClarion
was born in 1828 in Glasgo, Scotland to John and Mary Stewart McClarion.
John Nethery immigrated to the USA in 1848 first
settling in Illinois/Wisconsin. His mother, Mary Russel Nethery also came to Wisconsin
and died there in 1870. He had siblings who lived in Wisconsin at the same time. All are
immigrants to this country. Mary McClarion/McLaren is buried in Leadville, Colorado
and John is buried in Cimarron, Colorado. Both died in 1901. They are the
parents of 7 children.This page is dedicated to this family and these are some of the family
photos that were donated by Eva Nethery Perry, only daughter of youngest son, Russel. ~

where John had worked for the Narrow Gage Railroad as a watchman.

Husband of Matilda Mary Cullen.
Oldest son of John & Mary McClarion/McLaren Nethery~
Father of eight children.
His obituary says he worked as a teamster during the boom days
(in the mines in the Leadville), later being engaged as an engineer and during the later years
of his life he worked as a carpenter. He was a member of Olive Homestead,
No. 586, Brotherhood of American Yeomen. James was born in
Galena, Illinois in 1850; died & is buried in Leadville in 1932.

The second child of John & Mary McClarion Nethery:
John Nethery~
Photo estimate date 1900 in Leadville, Colorado .
John married Mary Stacey in Joplin, Mo., and to this union was born one daughter
who resided in Leadville at the time John died in 1929.
He was survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Nethery of Cripple Creek, Colorado;
a daughter Mrs. Minnie Owens of Leadville.


The third child of John and Mary McClarion Nethery is
Mary Nethery~
Very little is known about this family member. She is listed
in the 1880 Jasper County, Missouri census, Mary is in the household with her
parents/family. The marriage records for Jasper County, Missouri show Mary Nethery
married Washington M. COX 22 Apr 1883 in Jasper Co. Nothing more is known.


The fourth child of John and Mary McClarion Nethery is
Ellen (Ella or fondly called Aunt L by the family) Nethery~
There are no known family photos of Ellen.
Ella married Eber Higdon in 1878 in Jasper County, Missouri.
This couple had three children: Leona (Beurman), Denne (Altman/Stevens) & Ben.
Eber died in 1889 in Leadville, Colorado leaving Ella to raise the children.
In her obituary in 1932, she is said to be a member of the Neighbors of Woodcraft and
Macabee lodges in Glenwood Springs. Ella is buried in Leadville, Colorado.


The fifth child of John and Mary McClarion Nethery is
Robert Nethery~
There are no known family photos of Robert.
Robert married Margaret Anna Houston in 1881 in Jasper County, Missouri.
This couple had five children:
Claude (Katie Rodarme), Jessie (Morgan), Rhea (Taylor), Nellie (single),
& Robert Frank (Violet Hunnell).
Robert lived, died and is buried in Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri.
This is where he helped to raise his family. He did come to Carlin, Nevada to visit his brother,
Russel in about 1925. Robert's obituary said he was a city employee.


The sixth child of John and Mary McClarion Nethery is
William T. Nethery~
There are no known family photos of Willie.
This is what is known about his life. This is from an obituary contributed by James Nethery,
a cousin from Wisconsin.
In Gothic (near Gunnison Colorado), April 10, 1886, Willie Nethery:
The funeral occurred at the residence of his father, John Nethery last Monday morning.
In the berevement of their son they have the deep sympathy of the entire community.
Three years ago the young man was thrown from a horse hurting his spine
and has been an invalid ever since. The journey out from Joplin
seemed to be too much for him, although he received the tenderest care, gradually failed
after his arrival until he died suddenly by water rushing upon his brain. He was burried
in the pretty little cemetery on the hill.

Russel Nethery~
Russel married Suzie Miller in 1897 in Cimerron, Colorado
This photo is the family of Russel.

Taken in Fairplay, Colorado, when Russel was sheriff.
Aunt Eva Nethery Perry says the tea cup set on the shelf behind them was her tea set.
James L. was beloved Grandfather of Maureen Brook.
