George Morrison Sr.

Parents unknown at this time~
Great Great Grandfather to Maureen Pearson Brook;
Father of Great Grandmother "Ga" Anna Morrison Hoffman~
Photo of when George was living in Salida, Colorado between 1916 and death in 1922
He was about 70 years old in the photo,
Julia and George had retired in Salida after running the Granite House in Granite, Colorado.
These grandparents also had a ranch in Riverside, Colorado.



Whelan~Kelly

Wife of first husband Christopher Kelly then to George Morrison Sr.
Daughter of Andrew and Mary Moore Whelan from County Queens
(County Laois is the current name for County Queens), Ireland~
Mother of Great Grandma "Ga" Anna Morrison Hoffman and seven living children
at the time of her death, but the obituary says "Thirteen children blessed this home".
In 1907 they were living at the corner of C street and Front street.
Julia is buried next to George F. Morrison in the Fairview Cemetery in Salida, Colorado.
George Morrison was the postmaster
of Riverside(north of Buena Vista) from 1878-1883;
operated the Granite House (a hotel) and the Granite/Twin Lakes Stage Line.
Julia Morrison was said to be the first female in Buena Vista, Colorado.



The oldest child of Christopher and Julia Whelan Kelly was Mary (Mamie) Kelly Gaw.
A photo of Mary has not been found at this time.
She was married to Sirus W. Gaw in the 1900 census living in Salida,
Chaffee County, Colorado with one living child. This is a death record of Mary:
GAW, Mamie F. MORRISON Born Jun 1876, age 35, Died 27 Oct 1904. Married
C. N. GAW, a butcher, at the Riverside home of her father, George MORRISON, in Sep 1896.
(Chaffee County Republican 2 Sep 1896. (1900 census: age 23, married 5 years, 1 child)
(Chaffee County Courthouse Records p. 12, death record).


The second child of Christopher and Julia Whelan Kelly was Rosa Kelly Ross.
A photo of Rosa has not been found at this time. She was married to Bert Ross and lived in
Alexandria, Nebraska in 1919.


Christopher Kelly (Morrison)
The third child of Christopher and Julia Whelan Kelly was Christopher Kelly.
This is a photo of him with Julia at the door behind him. Christopher was a bachelor.
Grandmother Leona Hoffman Nethery talked of her Uncle Chris and how he'd
brought her jewelry from Africa.


Margaret Birdie Morrison Solomon
The oldest child of George and Julia Whelan Kelly Morrison was Margaret (Birdie)
Morrison Solomon. Her marriage certificate says Margurretta J. Morrison was
married to George M. Solomon in 1899 in Leadville, Colorado. In Margaret's obituary it says
Mrs. Solomon is survived by two daughters, Cleo Solomon, of
Long Beach, California, who was with her mother at the time of her death and
Mrs. Bessie Morrell, also of Long Beach, California. These relatives haven't been located.
This is the only known photo of Birdie.

The second child of George and Julia Whelan Kelly Morrison was George Morrison Jr.
George Morrison Jr. was a life long resident of Chaffee County, Colorado.
He was born January 8, 1881 at Riverside, Colorado where he engaged in mining
for a number of years. After moving to Salida in 1916, he was employed by the
Salida Transfer Co. He later served on the Salida police force. George married
Lottie Reed Morrison and the couple did not have children.
A photo of George has not been found.


Anna Morrison Hoffman
The third child of George and Julia Whelan Kelly Morrison was my direct line;
Anna Morrison. My family called her Grandma "GA", she was my Great Grandmother.
She was a very nice lady and called the children in the family her "kiddies".
I remember her annual visits to Carlin, Nevada to visit my family.
She made the most beautiful quilts.
I have one of her quilts. She had a strict work ethic that was
to get something done productive everyday of life. Her daughter,
Leona Hoffman Nethery was my grandmother. She was a very hard working person and an
inspiration to me. Anna was a native of Riverside & Salida,
Chaffee County, Colorado. She came with husband, Julius Hoffman "Pop" to California
after the great depression of 1929 and was a resident of
Colfax, California
for 35 years. She was a member of Manzanita Rebeka Lodge #182 of Colfax.


Harry Morrison
Harry Morrison, night yard master at the D. & R. G. W. railroad and well known in
Salida, Colorado most of his life. Harry Morrison was born Sept. 6, 1888 to George and
Julia Morrison in Riverside and had been a resident of Salida since 1916. On May 6
of that 1916 he married Miss Nora Mahon at Buena Vista. He had three daughters, Josephine,
a teacher in the Salida Junior High school, Lenore, a nurse and Leona Morrison, a secretary.


Alice "Allie" Morrison Gray with Husband Floyd
Alice Morrison was the youngest child of George and Julia Morrison. Alice was born
in May 1892 in Riverside, Colorado. She married
Floyd Gray and settled in Pueblo, Colorado. They lived
to settled in Pueblo.  The 1920 census shows them in Moffat County.
Floyd was first a carpenter (how he lost his eye) and then a general
contractor.  He was responsible for building many of the buildings at
Colorado College in Colorado Springs. He built
the house they lived in on Pitkin. A most solid house.
The couple did not have children. Alice "Allie" died in Pueblo
and this was her last known residence.
