Note to parents: Do not leave your son or daughter home alone and head out of town the day the little genius graduates from high school. If you do, and if Can't Hardly Wait is to be believed, hundreds of rowdy seniors will invade your house for one last bash. They will poach your liquor, puke on your best carpet, take love in various rooms of your house, install a live band in your living room and otherwise totally trash the place. They will also break up with each other, find new ways to suffer through adolescent angst. Although Wait, an '90s wannabe of all those '80s John Hughes teen films (Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Pretty in Pink) and American Graffiti before that, is better than a simple plot summary makes it sound, it's still not a movie that anyone old enough to pay a mortgage has to bother seeing. What's best about Wait are the bright turns by its young cast, particularly Seth Green as a white kid convinced that he's a homeboy and Lauren Ambrose as a peeved, Janene Garofalo in training.
Bottom Line: Teen-friendly summer fare
