Messiah
Some will speak of the divinity of Jesus and yet say Jesus was not "God".
How can this be? It seems they may have given a new meaning to the word "divinity", saying that divinity means a window for God to shine through Jesus or that Jesus is a window to God.
Likewise they re-define words, such as "Trinity", so they can say they believe in the "Trinity" when the term "Trinity" refers to people's search for who God is.
Some, even, might admit that the Bible teaches certain things and yet choose to believe what the Bible teaches is not true.
A few years ago an University Professor (retired) had a rather unconventional view of Atonement. Romans 4:25 says [Jesus our Lord] was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. People have various interpretations of what Scripture says. Did St. Paul actually teach something other than the traditional view of atonement?
One evening a member of the class asked him what was his interpretation of St. Paul's statement? His answer was simple: “Paul was wrong”.
It would seem that he believed that St. Paul taught the traditional view of the Atonement; but, in his view, “Paul was wrong”. It seems that he did not believe what the Bible teaches!
Likewise, it seems the Deity of Jesus and the literal Resurrection of Jesus Christ is taught in the Bible; however, some people choose to not believe the truths taught by the Holy Scriptures.
As stated in Article 2 of the Basis of Union of the United Church of Canada: “We receive the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, given by inspiration of God, as containing the only infallible rule of faith and life, a faithful record of God's gracious revelations, and as the sure witness of Christ”.
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ. --Titus 2:13
Rev. John Wesley's notes on the New Testament makes the comment that if there were greater gods and lesser gods, even this passage declares that our Saviour Jesus Christ is the Great God.
We have redemption through Jesus' Blood, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature. For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead: that in all He might have the pre-eminence. For it pleased that in Him should all fulness dwell. --Colossians 1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God, All things were made by Him: and without Him was not any thing made that was made. … And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. --St. John 1:1-3, 14
Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, "Before Abraham was, I am" --St. John 8:58
In this account we see St. Thomas worshipping the Risen Jesus as "Lord" and "God" and the Lord Jesus Christ, in His Risen Body, accepts the worship and commends St. Thomas for it.
In this passage Messiah clearly claims that He existed before Abraham, and that He existed as the I AM, the Eternal God.
Jesus Christ, Messiah, Eternal God
Awesome God.
Worship and adore Him.
