Sickness and Dying with grace

The Muslim client will always respect the holy Qur’an as a primary source of strength for all situations in their lives. After the Holy Qur’an the hadith where record show prophet Mohammed (PBUD) lead his own life as an example for others is a major source of inspiration.

For the Muslim client, the relationship between Allah and humans in Islam is a direct one , with no mediators. In this direct relationship, the practicing Muslim recogn- izes that there is no other party that can help, give, take, support, provide, or grant forgiveness but Allah. In such a direct relationship, Muslims do notassociate any other deities with Allah. Moreover, through their faith and submission to Allah become complete and pure.

The NMAI Project have selected the following saysing( quotes from the Qur’an and hediths) for Muslims to give a comfort, strength , and spiritual growth for sickness and dying .

Favorite Islamic sayings selected by Muslims :

"Whoeversubmits his wholeself to Allah, and is a doer of good, has grasped indeed the firmest hand-hold: and to Allah shall all things return". (31:22)

Whenever a Muslim is afficted by any hardship, whether it be chronic sickness, grief, harm, a disaster, or even a thorn prick Allah will wash out some of his minor sins. (Bukhari, Muslim)

Say: "O my servants who have transgressed against their souls! despair not of the mercy of Allah: for Allah forgives all sins: he is oft-forgiving, most merciful". (39: 53).

" I seek protection for you with Allah’s perfect words from every Satan and crawling creature and every evil eye." (ibn 29)

"So verily, with every difficulty, there is relief". (94.5)

"It is Allah who giveth life and who taketh it, and to him shall ye all be brought back".

"O mankind! there hath come to you an admonition from your Lord and a healing for the (diseases) in your hearts, and for those who believe, a guidance and a mercy". (10:56-57)

When a Muslim is at the point of death family members of the dying and his/her friends should be informed and should be present at his/her side to help him turn his thoughts to Allah, encourage him/her very gently to repents, remind him /her about all the good deeds that he/she did, about Allah’s mercy, and Allah’s forgiveness sothat he/she may anticipate Allah’s mercy and Allah’s favors. Allah in the Quran said:

" And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord, but those who are misguided" (15:56).

Say: "It is Allah who gives you life, then gives you death; then he will gather you together for the day of judgment about which there is no doubt: but most men do not know."

"Then, as to those who believed and did righteous deeds, their Lord will admit them to his mercy: that will be the manifest triumph".(45:26,30)

Prophet Muhammed(PBUH) said: " Let no Muslim die except expecting and hoping the best from Allah" (Hadith-Muslim).

"O you who believe! keep your duty to Allah, and speak always the truth.Allah will direct you to do good deeds and will forgive you your sins. And whosoever obeys Allah and his messenger, he verily has got a great success" (33:70-71).

A Muslim who is dying should as a measure of percaution, be laid on his/her back if possible, in such a manner that the soles of his/her feet would face the Qibla (direction towards the holy ka’bah in Meeca- Saudi Arabia).
