Daughters of the American Revolution
Old Glory ...
As the flag came parading by unfurled against a clear blue sky,
I paused to wonder,
what is behind this symbol of my country's kind ?
Did it all begin with the minute men or the liberty tree?
Or was it a seed planted long before by men who desired to be free?
The shot that was fired on that awesome day
and heard the world around,
which gave birth to a nation and hallowed bloody ground
was not first fired on American soil
nor unique to our forefather's sense.
It was a shot fired many years ago
and has echoed many time hence.
The ultimate battle for freedom, the shot that awakened man
originated in that stable so low when God took a stand.
He changed the world into a better world where man respected man…..
where those who valued freedom could seek a fertile land.
America, the beautiful, the land that is my own,
based on liberty and freedom, won by blood and bone.
Just as each American hero gave his life for freedom and home,
God’s Heavenly prince died to set free any man where ever he may roam.
Yes, when I see the flag unfurled against a clear blue sky,
I know what is behind this symbol of my country’s kind.
It is love, unconditional and true.
It is giving , without expecting return.
It is remembering reverently, the ideals of the past.
It is believing in our truths and freedoms
and making sure that this is the belief of our children.
Wave on Old Glory …. May no man destroy you.
May you always represent men who love liberty and are free.
