The Titanic was owned by JP Morgan, the owner of the IMM group.
She was envisioned by J. Bruce Ismay, president and managing director of IMM, and Lord William Pirrie, managing director of Harland and Wolff, in 1907 to represent man's complete control over nature- the unsinkable ship.
Titanic was the 2nd of 3 sister ships- Olympic/Titanic/Gigantic, later named the Brittanic, which sank in WWI after serving as a hospital ship.
The keel was laid on March 31, 1909 at the Harland and Wolff Shipyards in shipyard #401 beside sister ship Olympic in shipyard #400.
Titanic's launch was on Wednesday, May 31, 1911 at 12:15 PM.
Length: 882 1/2 feet
Although the Titanic only had 20 lifeboats aboard, enough for 1,500 of its passengers, it had more than required by law. There were more supposed to be on the deck, but some opposed Thomas Andrews' idea for this, saying the deck would look too cluttered, and did not add them.
The cost of Titanic was in 1912: $7,500,000
and in 1998 it would cost: $400,000,000
The Titanic featured several new commodities to the day including a Turkish Bath, a Gym with electric camel, an onboard swimming pool, a squash and raquet court, and although the 3rd class room were far below the quality of 1st class, they surpassed the quality of other liners' 1st class rooms.
Titanic did have a Renault listed on its cargo. But at this time, cars were disassembled and packed in crates in the cargo hold, not held fully assembled as seen in the movie.
