Lynn Herring Quotes

Half of these are from the magazine Soap Opera Digest. And some are courtesy of my best online friend Dawn Lasky. Thank you hon! You and Digest made this page happen! The rest I have no clue as to where I found them. :-)

Lynn on what motivates Lucy's behavior

I think a lot of it is out of [a] lack of security as a child. She just has a mean streak in her, and some people are just born with that. She just didn't have a lot [of security] and I think she's determined to make up for everything she lacked, double time. She's not going to put up with any second-hand anything anymore. I think some people really hate her, but in a lot of the letters I get, [I sense that] people really identify with her a little bit, because they've been wronged, or they feel they're due something they didn't get. They may not like her ways, but she's determined.

Lynn on fans' reaction to her real life personality compaired to Lucy's personality.

They say 'You are so down to earth compared to Lucy!' Sometimes I think they would like me to be as mean as Lucy is. (10/15/91)

Lynn on her concerns over Lucy's 1991 miscarriage

I was a little concerned because I knew that unborn babies are aware of sounds and emotions...Lucy cried over a baby that I, as Lynn, hadn't really lost.

Lynn on Lucy's relationship with Serena

Lucy wants to protect Serena from everything. Serena represents a change in Lucy that happened when Lucy gave birth to her and started her life down a totally different path.

Lynn on what attracted Lucy to Scotty

What drew Scotty and Lucy to each other was disrespect, impertenance, and a sense of fun and adventure. They are not your run-of-the-mill soap couple.

Lynn describing Kevin and Scotty

Kevin is the ideal man in terms of being stalwart, brave, and true. Scotty is the exciting, highly flammable, combustible troublemaker.

Lynn on who is right for Lucy

In her heart of hearts Lucy thinks she needs Kevin. But what gets her heart going is Scotty. Do you go with who you believe is right for you or do you go with who accepts you for who you are?

Lynn on the affects of being a parent on her and her character's habits

People don't completely change their spots. Just because you have a family, it doesn't change who you are...I'm just as wacky as I was before I had children [Hank and Grady]. In fact being a mom has given me more freedom to be wacky and funny...[Scott and Lucy] are older and wiser but you don't totally change what excites you. I think we've lost a little bit of that. But it's easy to get back.

Lynn on the Surrogacy Story

That was one of my favorite times on the show. I was so glad they wrote it [the pregnancy] in, and wrote it as sweet and touching as they did. The story was very important for Lucy because it marked a real transition with the character.

Lynn and Stuart Damon (Alan) on why Lucy married Alan

Stuart: One of the main reasons is that she has one of the most incredible bodies.
Lynn: For power, money, nice clothes -- and to tick everybody off.

Lynn on how she likes where her characters place right now.

I love this part, and think every year has just gotten better.

Lynn on how her style is different from Lucy's

Lucy and I don't have much of anything in common. Certainly not the wackiness. I only wear tight dresses to award shows. Everyone always asks me what is the biggest challenge I face playing Lucy, and I tell you it's every day...it's those heels!"

Lynn on what she would be doing if she was not acting.

I truly believe that if I was not in the acting profession, I'd most likely be working to protect our wildlife and their habitats, perhaps a lobbyist in Sacramento or Washington, D.C.

Lynn on how SHE would react if she was in the same situations as Lucy usually is.

I'd be dead three times if I had to go through all that Lucy has.

Lynn on why Lucy and Kevin are perfect for each other.:-)

Kevin and Lucy complete each other. It's like half of Lucy's been missing, and that wonderful, smart part of her is Kevin. He needs to be more passionate, and Lucy brings that out in him.

Lynn on wheather Lucy will ever be able to relax and enjoy a Nurses' Ball.

It would be nice [laughs]. But even if Lucy can't be lighthearted, at least the musical numbers are.
