In my class, I use a stoplight system as part of my behavior management strategy. Every child begins each day on green and their name is moved accordingly dependent upon their behavior. After receiving several warnings for inappropriate behavior, a child's name will be moved to yellow and they will be given a 5 minute time-out from playtime. A red light results in a 10 minute time-out from playtime. Any type of violent benavior is an automatic red light. Each day the child's color that was earned is marked on their calendar and sent home for parents to sign and return.
