RESUME
of Bill Fulk
EDUCATION
Graduate of Indiana University, department of Fine
Arts (now the Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Arts), with
continuing education in Colorado.
Studied oil painting with Harry Engel, Edward Millman, and Linda Lowry, printmaking and commercial art
with Arthur Deshaies and Seong
Moy, design with George Rickey, drawing with Cathy Holt and Sangeeta Reddy, and photography with Scott Engle - also
completed courses in ceramics, sculpture, and a lot of art history (one of my
many jobs in college was operating the slide projector for art history
classes).
I also completed undergraduate and graduate level courses in
mathematics, project management, and computer science.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
My name is William (Bill) Fulk. I am descended from members
of the Moravian sect who moved from North Carolina to Indiana Territory, on
my father's side, and from Welsh immigrants to Virginia and later Kentucky on
my mother's. Originally our name was Volck (Andreas
Wilhelm Volck from the Rhineland), but as pioneers
tended to spell everything the way it was pronounced, it became Fulk.
I grew up in extreme southern Indiana, an only child in a
household of older people. I fished, hunted, swam, and rode my bicycle around
town as I wished, accompanied by my big mutt Butch. I attended Indiana
University, graduating with a BA in Fine Arts. I spent a couple of years in
the U. S. Army in a variety of units, my favorite being a stretch with the
1st Armored Division as an intelligence specialist.
Jobs in Fine Arts being non-existent after discharge, I
began a career in air transportation to support myself and later, my family,
primarily in the computer science field where I achieved some recognition in
computer performance evaluation and computer simulation. I painted
sporadically during this period.
Several years ago, I re-entered the art world, again as a
student. I took classes in oil painting, drawing, and watercolor. I began
entering art shows around the country, and have been juried into quite a few
national and international shows.
