"Melancholy"

Finished on June 8th, 2007, "Melancholy" is an 11" x 14" oil on canvas. My goal here was develop a somewhat somber mood, moreso with color and form than with tight realistic painting as I am accustomed to. While I always liked the earlier works of George Inness, as I get older, I am gaining a much greater appreciation for his later paintings, those with more somber, emotional subject and color. "Melancholy" is owned by Bea and Bob Gallagher of Williamstown, MA.
