LEXICON

[
^^home] Purpose: To list special usage terms (eg, "Philip K. Dick", "Time", etc), create a use-full "common vocabulary" for discussions/reference, and to provide explanitory notes concerning usually muddled things that are usually taken as "equivaent"; eg, merz, trash, rubbish, gubble, life. Philip K. Dick

Gubble/Kibble} {Dictionary "Dick, Philip K."} {Web links} Science fiction author and futurist. 1928-1982. Movies based on his stories/novels: Blade Runner (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep) Minority Report Paycheck Screamers Total Recall Recommended reading (grouped as "sets") Solar Lottery (first, and still a fine novel) The World that Jones Made Martian Time Slip Our Friends from Frolix IX (or XI or something like that ;) Valis The Galactic Pot Healer The Maze of Death Eye in the Sky mr. r sez: For the most part hollywood can't really come up with anything unique or good. As such, they tend to suck the literature industry (such as it is) dry scrambling about like dung beetles (which serve some useful purpose), taking ideas and making them into lame movies. Of course, occasionally, they get it "right". Screamers is the best of the lot (very violent, but then that's how hollywood interprets the "excitement of idea" -- violence). Bladerunner comes close, but must be viewed as a "film novel" based on concepts from Do Androids -- more of a parody than an interpretation. NEXT: Dick's concept of Gubbish/Kibble {^top}

TNT -- Tips, Notes, Techniques

TNT was the the title of a book, that I read (i think I even xeroxed most of it) when I was studying to be a teacher. "Tips, Notes, and Techniques for Teachers". Of course, what really drew me in was the stick-figure cartoons that went with each idea. One of them was a picture of a stick figure with a cowboy hat and a lasooe. The lassoe was wrapped around a student's thought ballon. The "tnt" was "Don't steal student's ideas" -- not that *that* ever happens in the real world!!!!! The worst case of this was a maths teacher who consistently gave us tests with "bits" of un-proved theorems. (A frood of mine confirmed that he had encountered this as well!!! And we all wondered how these mediocre maths teachers managed to pub such brillian proofs!)
