Brown Sugar Cookies

1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
2/3 cup shortening
2 eggs
2 Tbsp milk
1 Tbsp grated orange zest
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp salt
2 cups flour
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped nuts if desired

Mix sugar and butter and beat until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, milk and orange zest. Add remaining dry ingredients and mix in. Stir in nuts and raisins.

Place rounded teaspoonfuls unto greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350F for 10-12 minutes.
Makes 4-5 dozen.
