About the artist: Born in Holland in 1959, I immigrated to Canada at the age of six. I am the mother of three children, two off which are in post-secondary education. I picked up a brush in grade nine to try my hand at oils and the acrylic medium before tackling motherhood. Painting was completely out of the picture for many yeard. A few years ago, I felt irresistibly drawn to picking up a brush again. I am undeniably drawn to people painting, but not portraiture per se. I have been commissioned, taking on projects that enhance my own enjoyment of painting and I am happy to continue in that direction - hoping the onlooker may experience for himself the moment in time, that I tried to capture in the painting itself. I prefer working from pictures or photos that I am particularly drawn to which usually have a strong interplay in the contrast of light and shadow. Certain character faces in an acrylic medium are subjects I have tackled fondly in the past, but more recently I have put my hands to water color with enjoyment & success. I hope that you will have an appreciation in the honing process of a 'gift' I was given, and a labour of love - painting.
