These drawings were created by G. S. Isola.  The medium used is pencil, graphite and Prismicolor.

Most of the pieces shown here were drawn in the 1980s and 1990s and are only a small representation of my body of work.  They are however, I feel, my best to date.

    - Hilary Hahn -  (10" x 10" cardboard) - 2002

I have in recent years become a great fan of

classical music. Miss Hahn is to me the best of

the best violinists in the world. I did this

portrait of her kind of in a whim. My wife got

me tickets to see her perform on my last

birthday, after the concert we got to meet with

her and I presented this drawing to her on

05/04/2002 in Los Angeles, CA. It was one of

the highlights of my life,   Thanks Tami.

Just as a note, I am currently working on a better portrait

of Miss. Hahn, I will post it here as soon as I am done with it.

- John Lennon -   (11" x 14") - 1998

This piece was rendered from the 8" X 10"

glossy included in the Beatles White Album.

It incorporates  many of the facets of my pencil

technique including the ability to capture the

emotion and soul of the subject and the subtle

recording of light and shadow.

It also includes symbols belonging to

Mr. Lennon such as the dreamy sky of "Imagine"

and of course the green apple.

- Led Zeppelin -    (16" x 20") - 1998

This drawing was produced with a

   standard no.2 graphite pencil, this

is one my favorite tools, which I

   sharpen with my pocketknife.

The photo this was rendered from is

from one of the first photo sessions of

Led Zeppelin in 1968.  This piece also

   incorporates the burning airship from

the cover of their first record and the

bands symbols  from their fourth album.

       - David Crosby -   (18" x 24") - 1998

In this triple portrait I tried to span Mr.

   Crosby's musical lifetime.

Here we see a young Crosby as he appeared

when he was a central member of "The Byrds".

Then we see a somewhat older Crosby as a

founding member of the megagroup for which

he is best known, "Crosby, Stills and Nash".

In the forefront emerges an older more

mature Crosby as he appears today. Mr. Cosby

is still playing with C S & N as well as CPR, a

band he formed with his son James Raymond.

         - Levis - (9 1/2" X 11") - 1996

All of my life I have always worn Levis' jeans.

I have always been interested in Levi Strauss' ad

campaigns through the years as well, this is

my tribute to my favorite pants. I have never

worn a pair this short, or tight though.

   Thank Heavens.

        - Princess Diana -  (8 1/2" x 11") - 1997

What can be said here that hasn't been said

already.  She touched all of our lives and met an

untimely and tragic fate.  She will be missed.

         - Barkley -  (10" x 10" cardboard) - 2002

My wife Tami and I have had four Golden

Retrievers through the years, Amber (deceased),

Grimsby (deceased), Briar 11 years old and last but

certainly not least, Barkley. This little rascal is one

year old now. I'm not playing any favorites here but

this little guy has surely won my heart.

The picture I did this from was not actually

Barkley, I copied it from the internet, it really did

look like him at the time, he's a little bigger now.

          - Joan - (8 1/2" x 11" - printer paper) - 1995

Tami and I had a rather rough go of it trying to have

children, we lost three of them before adopting our son

Chris in 1989, this is a poem I wrote :

Hello, my name is Joan.  I never had any children of my own. I know  you  are asking yourself, who?  You know me not, but I do you. I received the best job up here, one that I hold very dear. I am in charge of the children you've lost, you have all paid such a heavy cost. Some you never knew, some you had. It's a great joy to me, to you it has to be very sad. They know you often think and speak of them. They look in on you too, time and again. It's a fun job, at times troublesome too. You would not believe some of the things little angels will do. I know they are really not mine. I'm just watching them until you reunite, in Gods good time. They are patiently waiting for you, but until then, they say...   I will do.         G. S. Isola - 1995

I drew the two pairs of eyes first, then carefully arranged

the lettering using MS Word and breathlessly placed the

paper in my trusty ol' ink-jet printer and let her fly.

It came out pretty good I think.

      - Tami - Cotton Candy Dreams -

              ( 18" x 24 ")  -  1985

This is a portrait of my wife Tami.

The photograph I rendered this from was

taken at the San Diego Zoo, or was it Sea

   World?

My wife is a diabetic so when my

Mother-In-Law saw this for the first time

she was very disappointed with my wife.

This drawing has always been almost an

inside joke from that point on.

               - A Question Of Leaving -

                  ( 11" X 14" )  -  1987

At the time I did this drawing I was going

through a time of decision. I had the chance

to leave our home here in the central valley

of California and take a job on the coast.

We had just bought a new house and a baby

   was on the way.

I chose to stay and I know now that was the

   correct choice to make.

          - Family Snapshot -  ( 8 1/2" X 8 1/2" )  -  1998

Just a doodle really, but I like it.

Steve, Tami and Chris Isola - The swirl reminds me of the

shutter of an old camera the way it opened and shut.

 - Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band -

Gatefold Suite

( Four separate panels - Each drawing is 18" X 24" )  -  1978

What can I say... It's the Beatles !

The light and shadow portions were done in No. 2 pencil.

The background colors were done with Prismacolor pencil.

The background colors match the color of the suit worn by each Beatle.
