PreAP Intro to Art SYLLABUS

Methods of Instruction:
Discussions, studio work, and sketchbook assignments. Various drawing techniques will be introduced using markers, charcoal, pencil, pen, etc. Students will do research on specific artists and art time periods. Students will explore design elements such as texture, shape, space, and pattern using a variety of media to create sculptures, paintings and drawings. Art history and art appreciation will be included. The PreAP Intro to Art class will follow the general outline of Art I requirements, but with an increased awareness of the historical significance of differing artistic time periods and higher skills in completing projects. This course should be a stepping stone to PreAP and AP coursework such as Drawing, Painting, 2D Concepts and/or Sculpture.
Attendance:
Class attendance is mandatory; punctuality is expected.
Supplies:
Spiral-bound sketchbook, pencils, fine point black drawing pens, kneaded eraser, 1 roll paper towels, and one box of kleenex.

1. Abide by schools rules.
2. Clean up after yourself Art is messy, and we will need to work together to keep the studio clean. All sinks and tables will need to be cleaned and dried daily. You are responsible for the entire table, not just the spot where you sit. Work together.
3. Students will be assigned additional clean-up tasks on a daily basis.
4. Treat tools and equipment with respect -- Art tools are expensive and not easily replaced, so clean tools and put them back where they belong.
5. Work safely -- Use tools and materials correctly!!! There are machines used in this class that are extremely dangerous when mishandled.
No throwing clay, supplies, and no Horseplay!!!!!
6. Do not touch other peoples work -- Look but do not touch. Accidental or purposeful breakage will result in automatic referral and possible removal from class.
7. Students are not allowed to use the phone -- Take care of any phone needs between classes or at lunch.
