What to Include in Your Web Page

Using Images

Images such as color photographs and drawings can display information in logos or pictures. They can be buttons or links to another Web site when clicked. Some browsers do not support images. Also, viewers may turn off image loading. To avoid problems, be aware of the image size. Images may be scanned and saved in an application such as Adobe Photoshop as a gif or jpg file.

After you have scanned your image check the image size. It is a good idea to keep images small, no more than 4 inches and no more than 300/500 pixels. Large images take a long time to download. Viewers will often get frustrated and choose not to view a Web site with large images. Choose Save As and you may save the image as a jpg or gif file. Some film companies will save your photographs as gif or jpg files for you on disk or send them to your email address.

Using Tables

Tables are a convenient way to organize and display information on your Web page. Tables consist of rows and columns. Each block of information is called a cell and can contain text, images and lists as elements. Cells can also contain other tables.

Using Forms

You can create a form that contains text, images, tables, and other information. For example, you can use forms for questionnaires or to take orders. You can organize the information using bullets or lists. Forms include text areas, text fields, pop-up menus, buttons and check boxes. You can also include password fields, hidden entries and buttons for resetting the viewer's input.

Using Frames

Frames are containers that you use to display Web pages. You can display two Web pages side by side in one frame layout document that is divided into rectangular frame sections. You can place as many frames in a frame layout document as you like. You cannot add text, images, links or make changes to the document in the frames. Frames are a new feature of Netscape HTML 3.0 and are not supported by many browsers. Claris Home Page adds an explanatory message to frame layout documents.
