The center design is that of a feudal lord, or daimyo, with an attendant kneeling next to him, perhaps bearing alarming tidings about the battle. There are gold squares and diamonds scattered about, as well as gold dust clouds. The outside of the bowl has brocade bands, with the gold motif repeating on the pedestal. A gold key fret band around the round foot. This is a wonderful antique satsuma example. The uncluttered figures and faces are done with fine detail.
13" diameter by 6.5-7" high; 8" foot diameter. Very good condition with enamel & gold about all there... 95-98%. A little rim roughness but no chips.
An excellent and unique Meiji (1868-1912) satsuma example with great theme. Hard to find today.
