A super rose mandarin large plate with a finely detailed central medallion of 2 elders or superior beings (sennin) with 2 attendants and probably a disciple. The long red cloth covered object carried by the right hand elder would be either a magic sword (the fancy textile wrapped around it and the scabbard) or a chiun (stringed musical instrument). Your guess is as good as mine. The border is covered with auspicious bats, peaches, etc. The footrim has kiln grit sticking to it. Rose mandarin is usually earlier than rose medallion. This is around 1850. No marks whatever.
9.75" diameter, an unusually large size, just short of a charger. Good condition, a short 1/2" hairline along the rim on the underside not normally visible. Enamel and gold work (lots of it) in very good condition. The bluish hue in the pics are due to my poor photography, plate does not have blue hue. An outstanding antique Chinese rose mandarin with a wonderful subject matter for your collection. Don't miss it!
