Chapter
twelve: Daddy
For the next six weeks, Basil spent most of her time talking care of
her
father. Kohana was beginning to feel lonely. Basil rarely played with
her
now. The princess tried to play with the servants but it wasn’t fun
without
Basil.
Joshu was getting worse everyday. His fever was rising, his chills
increased,
and his coughing worsened. Joobarausagi-san and the servants began to
doubt
Joshu pulling through this time. But Basil didn’t give up hope.
One day, Joshu said to his daughter: “Go play with Kohana.” Basil was
taken-aback.
“But daddy… what about you?” she asked. “I’ll be fine. Just go.” he
said.
“But….” she said. “Just go!” Joshu yelled. “Hai san.” Basil said meekly
as she bowed. The she turned and ran out the door.
Basil found her little friend by the lake. “Hi there.” she said aloud.
Kohana looked up. “Basil?” she asked. “Hai. It’s me.” her friend
answered.
Kohana ran and hugged her. The girls played in the yard. But Basil was
still worried for her father.
