Muse are:

1. Properly, song; but in usage, the deity or power of poetry. Hence poets in modern times, as in ancient, invoke the aid of the Muse or Muses, or in other words,the genius of poetry.

2. Muse- in ancient Greek mythology any of 9 daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne; protector of an art or science :
Calliope -the Muse of epic poetry
Clio -the Muse of history
Erato -the Muse of lyric and love poetry
Euterpe -the Muse of music (or the flute)
Melpomene -the Muse of tragedy
Polyhymnia -the Muse of singing and mime and sacred dance
Terpsichore -the Muse of the dance and of choral song
Thalia -the Muse of comedy and pastoral poetry
Urania -the Muse of astronomy
3. To be absent in mind; to be so occupied in study or contemplation, as not to observe passing scenes or things present.

4. v. 3. To wonder. «Do not muse of me.»
5. n. A kick-ass rock band from Devon, England. They have been around for many years, and have three albums to date (Showbiz, Origin of Symmetry, and Hullabaloo). If I could classify them I would, but their unorthodox nature makes them impossible to stereotype. If you have never heard them, do yourself a favor and check them out. They are incredible.
