Brush tip 1

Observation is the greatest painting aid. It’s free; it’s light and doesn’t take up room. Learn to develop it. Really look at objects and nature. Study the form, notice light direction and how shadows fall. When out walking, mix colours on the palette of your mind. Distant colours recede in strength: they become lighter. And as they advance towards the foreground, they become stronger. This produces a beautiful three-dimensional effect, when observation is transferred onto canvas. Open your mind and your eyes and invite the beauty of nature to be your teacher.
