Ralph
Lopez lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he has been an activist in his community for many years. He graduated with a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Yale University. This is his second novel.
The author says: "I
felt that Central Square had much to
offer as a backdrop for a novel, peopled as it is with strange and eccentric
characters. You don't have to walk down the street very far at any given time to see something funny, goofy, or strange. Writers who have influenced me are Russell Banks, Noam
Chomsky, and of course, Hunter Thompson. One thing they all have in
common, I think, is enormous rage. And anyone who is not feeling some sense of outrage these days has got to be pretty much asleep. George Bush is a kid with matches who just set the world on fire, and we're all taking it from the Halliburton neocons without lubrication. For writers, I'll humbly repeat what you have probably already heard, which is write about what you know. Truth has it's own ring to it, and even if your writing needs work, what is of value will emerge. "
