| Southern 'E' Media-Zimbabwe Gallery / VILLAGE Philip Weiss, Mandla Sibanda 3/2/01 The Village is a reconstruction near the walls of Great Zimbabwe. It supports the local tourist industry and shows the kinds of house many rural people still use today. Each round hut is a room forming part of a larger house. Locaol materials are used in construction. Because the weather is warm and space is plentiful the rooms were not joined as in Europe but kept far apart to prevent disease spreading. It also allowed privacy. The space between the rooms allows freedom of movement rather like a European hallway or landing! |
