Jeff Beck CDRs

Jeff Beck (Pounds and Stomps) 64-69 Early Years Rarities 29 tracks of Yardbirds rarities & early session stuff SB A- to A
**This cd has the best versions of this rare early stuff that I have heard and is quite tasty in its selections.

Jeff Beck (JBG1 Variations Vol.1) 18 tracks of 5 songs from JBG period performed back to back to compare how differently he plays them ranging from 1967-1990 (kind of rough breaks sometimes between the songs) 72 min AUD and SB A-

Jeff Beck Group 1967-68 BBC (Stone Cold Crazy) 68 min SB B+

Jeff Beck Group 1967-68 Super Rarities (Blue Bolero Shapes) 24 tracks 5 interviews Love is Blue Live 72min SB A-

Jeff Beck Group 1968 Truth Mono 7 songs SB A-

Jeff Beck Group 8-13-67 7th Annual Jazz and Blues Fest plus 6-6-67 Marquee Club Aud 72 min B+

Jeff Beck Group 6-68 Fillmore (Bill Graham Master) 33 min plus rare filler 70 min SB Aud A
**This has the best sound quality of this group in existence. Jeff is on fire, and we get to hear Jeff sing more than any other live show I know of (not that that is neccessarily a good thing). "The Sun is Shining" is worth the price of admission alone. Great filler and very cool to hear the contrast of Jeff and Rod doing two songs from Truth on the short 84 tour.

Jeff Beck Group 6-15-68 Fillmore East 4 songs B+ to A-

Jeff Beck Group 7-17-68 Dallas (formerly known as Miami 6-68) Best known whole JBG1 show 74 min Aud A-
**This is the best quality whole show from this band. They play great and every instrument shines. We get to hear Beck's Bolero live with Rod on 12 string. The new opinion is that this is not Miami but actually Dallas at a place called LuAnne's. It doesn't matter. Where ever it is they rocked.

Jeff Beck Group 12-12-68 Fillmore East (Blues Deluxe) Aud 74 min Aud B+

Jeff Beck Group 5-7-69 Boston Tea Party aprox 65 min Aud B

Jeff Beck Group 7-4-69 Newport Jazz Festival 40 min plus filler Aud B+ to A-

Jeff Beck Group 6-72 Paris Theatre London (Out of a Book) w/ a few later pieces spliced in. 70 min SB-A+
**This is a classic and this version of Ain't No Sunshine is breathtaking. This is one of the most booted shows from Jeff. However, I like this version of this concert the best because it has the annoying interviewer removed and I think the sound is best.

Jeff Beck Group same as above in original form w/Mike Harding narrating plus filler 60 min SB-A+

Jeff Beck Group 7-23-72 Roundhouse London (Last Ever Gig) 2 cd set w filler Aud A-
**This one isn't as clean of sound but priceless in performance and has Jeff singing Superstition the first time live as the encore with Bobby singing backup. It is the last time that this group would play together live plus it has some great filler.

Jeff Beck Group 8-1-72 Pittsburgh (Go Go Dancer Blues) BBA, Max and and Kim Milford on vocals) Aud B+ to A-

Jeff Beck Group (Milford Fiasco) BBA, Max and and Kim Milford on vocals)1972 4 songs from Tampa and NYC Aud B+

BBA 1972 BBA Quad excellent seperated sound Quad mix and alt. mix for each song SB A+

BBA 2nd Unreleased LP (Working Version) plus 7 live songs from 1st and Last shows SB and Aud A
**While the odds are that it would not have been a huge success, there is much here to enjoy. Especially the early forays into fusion (Solid Shifter and Jizz Whiz). Also some great live filler.

BBA 10-8-72 Jawhunder Thalle, Germany Great Aud A-
**A great early performance from this band. They are still doing songs from Vanilla Fudge, JBG1 and JBG2 and it is one of the first times they ever did People Get Ready. This is a classic.

BBA 10-15-72 Miles End Road, Sundown London First performance in England -Tracks aren't seperated so 1 long track (breaks on first song) Aud B+

BBA 4-13-73 Toronto aud B

BBA 5-18 &19-73 Osaka Japan-single version of official Japanese import 74 min SB A+

BBA 6-11-73 Pink Pop Festival, Holland short set w/filler Aud B+ to A-

BBA 1-22-74 City Hall, Sheffield (Get Ready) almost all material from 2nd lp  65 min A

Jeff Beck 4-30-75 Avery Fisher Hall, NYC 66 min Aud B+

Jeff Beck 5-2-75 Philadelphia (Duck Walk) 66 min Aud A-

Jeff Beck 5-3-75 Boston Made from Master reel to reel from manager of stadium (Reel to Real) 66 min Aud A
** Jeff loves the city of Boston and on most shows from Boston makes comments on how fondly he remembers his treatment from the JBG1 days. This recording has been around for a while as Live in Boston and other titles. However, this version came from the manager's master reel. Breathtaking. This is a must have recording and a definite desert island pick.

Jeff Beck 1975 tour Boston, Philly, Nagoya, Japan (Diamond Dust) 73 min Aud A-

Jeff Beck 7-23-75 (Complete Okeefe Toronto Shows) early and late show 2 cd set Aud A-to A
**There is something about Toronto that fires Jeff up. I've never heard a bad show from Toronto. Here he plays two shows and they are very different. He is revved up and is fighsty. This band is exceptional and Jeff just weaves around them. Not perfect sound but you forget quickly. I have received several other really great 75 shows recently so it is hard to single out but I think these and Boston still hold up as the best.

Jeff Beck 6-19-76 Vancouver (Broken Wired) Aud A-

Jeff Beck 6-26-76 Minneapolis (No Rain Boogie) approx 65 min Aud B+

Jeff Beck 7-3-76 Detroit (missing 12 min.)w/filler Aud A

Jeff Beck 7-23-76 Kansas City (More Play to Me) Excel. upgrade approx 45 min plus filler Aud A
**This is a great incomplete show and one I have had for years but this is a recently upgraded version. Great stuff, I just wish it was all there.

Jeff Beck 10-8-76 Palladium, NYC (Emotional the Crab) 70 min Aud A-

Jeff Beck 10-10-76 Boston 2 cd set Jan Hammer set also plus 86 Berkley filler Ex Aud A
**Once again, Boston and it is just phenomenal. Great sound and the crowd inspires Jeff. Jan is behaving himself and not overstepping his bounds and the band is cooking. A standout is the jazzy version of Come Dancing with Fernando dancing on the bass. This show blows away the official release of Jeff Beck Live with the Jan Hammer Group. Also very nice live filler from Jan Hammer and Jeff Beck from 1986.

Jeff Beck 2-1-77 Melbourne, Australia (Oh Yeah) 2 cd set w lots of filler Aud A- to A

Jeff Beck w/Stanley Clarke Messepalast Wien, Austria 7-7-79 2 cd set Great filler Aud A- excellent show
**This is a stunner and the most inspired of all the shows from Jeff and Stan together that I have heard.. Here we have a Coltrane and a Miles, Bird and Gillespie...two masters at the height of their powers. Great warm audience sound. Simon Phillips is great and you see why Jeff falls in love with him. This is from the second leg of the tour, so unfortunately Cat Moves and Hot Rocks have been dropped from set lists.

Jeff Beck w/Stanley Clarke (Battlefield) Les Arenes, France 7-10-79 2 cd set Aud A-
**A few nights later and still excellent but a step under in sound.

Jeff Beck w/Stanley Clarke (Glory to the Future) 7-10-79 Frejus, France plus 81 London 2cd set A-

Jeff Beck 9-6-80 San Diego (Jeffs Gear) 74 min aud B+

Jeff Beck 12-5-80 Osaka, Japan 2 cd set complete show w/filler Aud A-

Jeff Beck 12-14-80 Sapporo, Japan 2 cd set complete show w/filler EX SB A
**Same review as below on Yokohama but there is a slight touch of distortion. Just wonderful though. I go back and forth between which of these two shows would get top spot from 1980.

Jeff Beck 12-16-80 Yokohama, Japan 2 cd set complete show EX SB A
** This is a masterpiece. The four ballads on this one should have been offically released. They almost make you weep. It is hard to think of anybody ever squeezing so much emotion out of a piece of wood and some strings. The soundboard is incredible and while recorded a touch too low, when you crank it up it is still clean.

Jeff Beck 3-5-81 Edinburgh, Scotland (Lost Beck tapes Vol 5) w/Jagger at LA Country Club 87 filler 2 cd Aud A-

Jeff Beck 9-20 & 21-83 Arms Royal Albert Hall Two nights plus plus more SB A

Jeff Beck 6-1-86 Japan (Lotus Gem) w/Santana, Buddy Miles, Jan Hammer & Steve Lukather 2 cd set w/ SRV and JB filler from Hawaii 1984 filler Aud A
**This is a very interesting show with alot of differing opinions. Some don't like Jimmy Hall's voice. Some don't like Lukather's involvement. There are two things that I love about this show. The first is the sound. A true blue warm soundboard. The other is the relaxed attitude of Jeff. He is really having fun and taunts the members of the band, jokes with them and plays alot of humorous sound effect guitar to offset Luke's overkill and Santana's solos. I think it is a valuable record of a very strange time for Jeff and he shows an unusual amount of confidence. To hear Santana and Jeff jamming is way cool and to my knowledge the only recorded evidence of this happening. Cool filler also.

Jeff Beck 6-5-86 Fukuoka, Japan (Escape from Prison) 2 cd set w/ filler Aud A

Jeff Beck 10-10-86 Budokan Tokyo 2 cdset Aud A-

Jeff Beck 1986 (Ambitious) Flash outakes 45 min SB A

Jeff Beck 11-2-89 Toronto Encore w/SRV 70min Aud A-

Jeff Beck 4-23-90 Theatro Esmerdale, Milan, Italy 74 min excellent A
**I have alot of the 89-90 shows on tape and suprisingly there aren't alot of great ones in sound. On this short European leg they perform the whole Guitar Shop cd live. I don't think any match this one for fire and definitely not sound.

Jeff Beck 7-28 & 29-90 Hammersmith and Edinburgh (London Shop) 2 cd set Aud A-

Jeff Beck w/Big Town Playboys 4-93 Paris (Tribute to Cliff and Gene) 64min Aud A-

Jeff Beck 1995 Saratoga Springs, NY (Green Strato) appr. 70 min Aud A-

Jeff Beck 8-17-95 Pine Knob Detroit 1 cd Aud A
**If you think St. Louis is too thin sounding...this is your alternative. A hot performance and great recording. The best audience recording of the tour although Concord, Ca is very good also. I only have that one on tape and video. This one features incredible instrumental encores of People Get Ready and Going Down as opposed to the vocal version on St Louis.

Jeff Beck 8-26-95 Milwaukee, WI appr. 70 min Aud A-

Jeff Beck 8-27-95 (One Knight in St Louis) 72 min same as Best Shot SB incredible A+
**A few people don't like the thin sound of this soundboard. It doesn't bother me in the slightest. What I love is that you can hear each instrument as clear as if you had them seperated in the studio. I think of it as a studio work because you almost can't hear the audience. The encore with Keb Mo singing People Get Ready is way too cool and the performance as a whole is one of Jeff's best. Bozzio is incredible as well.

Jeff Beck 9-4-95 Portland, Oregon w filler 72 min Aud A-

Jeff Beck 7-7-98 Paradiso, Amsterdam 1st time new band played live with 10 songs from Montreux 7-11-98 w/JB, John McLaughlin and Jennifer Batten playing Manic Depression on encore 2 cd set Aud A-
** Here we have the first time Jeff with new band play live and it is delightful. Jeff is like a schoolboy in heat and is very excited about his new band and music. You can hear Jen holding back and listening very carefully to what Jeff is doing. The band is tight from the GetGo. Also there is an unreleased song that never appears anywhere else and the long version of Hurricane called Orbit along with the unreleased reggae-like Sending Sweets. The songs like Space for the Papa and What Mama Said don't have lyrics so they are purely instrumentals at this point in development. This is almost a month or so before they started recording Who Else so we are hearing the embyro of the cd. As filler we get to hear John McLaughlin, Jeff Beck and Jennifer Batten wailing on Manic Depression from the Montreux Jazz Fest. Priceless.

Jeff Beck 7-15-98 Milan Italy (Jeffs Back in Europe) 2 cd also 2 songs from Stuttgart Germ. 8-3-98 and 5 songs from Soundboard at Rio De Janiero 10-17-98 Aud A-

Jeff Beck 7-19-98 Milan Italy (Arab Hoot Boot) 74min Aud A

Jeff Beck 8-4-98 Nuremberg Germany (German Attack) approx 74 min Aud A-

Jeff Beck 8-5-98 Nue Eisenburg, Germany 2 cd set Aud A
** This is an wonderful show from the 98 tour and agreed by most collectors to be the best performance. It is also the very last show of that European tour, which is it's one downfall. They have worked through the final variations of the sets so it is basically the same show that they come to America with in March of 99. With that said Jeff is hot and you can sense a final confidence and resolution to the band, show format and his career. He is ready to go out and conquer the world. Excellent audience recording.

**Very good audience recording and incredible performance. Many collectors call this the best performance of the 98-99 tour. There are alot of great ones but I don't know if I could argue with this statement. Something magical was in the air.

Jeff Beck 9-13-99 Winnepeg, Canada 2 cd set spaces in between Aud A-

Jeff Beck 9-25-99 Las Vegas HOB 2 cd set Box of Frogs filler Aud A

Jeff Beck 10-9-99 Shepherds Bush, London 2cd set Ex Aud A+

Jeff Beck 10-10-99 Shepherds Bush, London Complete with Filler 2 cd set Ex Aud A+
**This is the best recording soundwise and if anything second to Minneapolis in performance. This is the last night of the whole tour and he is in his home country and in rare form. It is almost like he came back to say, "Don't you dare take me for granted". Stunning and a must have for any collector.

Jeff Beck Talks- 2 disc set of Jeff Beck interviews from 1969-1999 w/ filler SB A- to A
**This is just cool to hear Jeff the human being. Both times I met him he was sweet, gentle and genuine. Whether it is his cocky early interviews or humble later ones, he comes across as a real person not a superstar. Some informative and interesting stuff.
