How I Got To This Stage

by Susan Beyer
    performing songwriter

Many singer/songwriter Bios begin like this:
“When I was 13 years old, I got my first guitar.”
And that is how my story starts too.
I did get a second-hand guitar around that age but...it just didn't take.

I pegged myself as a Good Listener and figured that was as far as
my musical abilities would ever go.
I carried this notion with me for a long, long time, making
something like a living out of it as a music journalist/reviewer.

When I finally quit doing that, I could finally hear the words & music that were in my own heart.
So the story of how I really got here, today, starts like this:

“When I was 40-something, I got my second guitar.”

Am I still a Good Listener? If you come hear this wonderful line-up you'll discover for yourself.

(Susan Beyer, performing songwriter, is a writer of fiction, poetry, an award-winning radio play on CBC
called I Used To Have A Clothesline and in the past 3 years - over 150 songs. Her most public byline
was as the country music correspondent for the Ottawa Citizen, from 1985 until 1998. After leaving the paper
to refocus her own creative energies, her writing took an unplanned and completely unexpected turn...into song.)
