Running for Justice

Zachary Running Wolf Brown will run 5,000 miles-San Francisco to Philadelphia-to demand justice-and a new trial- for Mumia Abu-Jamal, an African-American journalist in death row.

Mumia Abu-Jamal has been denied his essential human rights. All people of color, not just African-Americans, must protest this travesty of justice.

"Leaders must cross color lines," explains Running Wolf. "As a Native American leader, I am responsible not only to my own people, but also to all other minorities in this country. We must strenghten the bonds between us-beginning with mutual respect- to break the racial boundaries imposed on us by the dominant culture. It is time for native Americans to build and lead a new multi-ethnic coalition."

WHO IS ZACHARY RUNNING WOLF:

He has been a leader in the Native community for 8 years, in the San Francisco Bay Area, nationally and with his own Blackfeet Nation. His work serves all peoples of color.

WHY RUN 5,000 MILES?

Talk is cheap. When you hit the road, people pay attention. Running Wolf has already run 1,000 miles and 1,5000 miles for Native issues. He ran home, from Oackland to the Blackfeet reservation in Browning, Montana, to raise awareness about   the damage caused by the Native American adoption/relocation. He ran to 28 casinos accross California to call on California Indian Gaming to be responsible and share the wealth with organizations that help urban native Americans (35,000 in Bay Area alone), especially children.

SCHEDULE

Running Wolf will run the 5000 miles in 4-6 months, 30-35 miles a day, starting May 14 in San Francisco. He will run through Reno,  Salt Lake City, Denver, Chicago and Cleveland, to Philadelphia. On the way, he will educate Native Americans about Mumia's plight and will bring Mumia letters of support from tribal governments.
