The Golden Rules for Long Hair Care by George Michael of Madison Avenue (N.Y.C), the late master hair stylist for long beautiful hair

1. Wear your hair in a one-length, blunt cut style. Trim ends of long hair every 2 months.

2. Watch your diet carefully, be sure to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.

3. Don't over-expose your hair to the elements (sun, salt water, wind) without some protection.

4. Never tease your hair. Avoid center parts.

5. Morning brushing routine: Before brushing hair, finger brush by running the fingers trough the hair to remove any mark and tangles. Bending down from your waist, brush hair gently, following each stroke of the brush with your free hand. Start with 20 strokes and build up to 100, adding 10 strokes each day until you reach the goal of 100 strokes.

6. Don't use metal or plastic combs, nylon brushes or brushes with a rubber base. Select a natural bristle brush with a long handle and an oval shape.

7. Shampoo your hair as often as necessary, using a mild shampoo containing natural oils and conditioning ingredients. A creamy shampoo formula helps avoid tangles.

8. Don't over-condition your hair. Don't apply conditioner every time you shampoo.

9. Never comb wet hair. If you must blow dry your hair, always point the blower in a downward motion in order not to disturb the shingle pattern of the hair.

10. Never use electric rollers, hot combs or blowers.

11. Never use elastic bands (coated or uncoated). Don't set hair in tight pin curls, with brush-type rollers or other damaging objects.

12. Cut out or cut down to a minimum the use of hair sprays or setting lotions.

13. Don't bleach hair without professional advice.

14. Grow your hair as long as you can grow it. Don't forget: When your hair is 1 inch long, 87 hairs are lost each day. If your hair is about 40 inches in length, only 16 hairs are lost each day. And a woman will lose no more than 2 hairs in one day when her hair is 60 inches long!
