Survival
The word, "Survival" meaning to be holding on
to something,
making it last, however you might use the word,
it always has a sentimental meaning behind the action..
Alot of "Third World" Nationalities on Mother Earth,
know what it is to Survive with what they have.
Aborigionals, have been one of those Nationalities
that have been pushing the very issue of Survival.
The very Survival of Mankind...
Since the world is advancing in technology,
and we need resources to keep up with our demand,
We need the essentials to run what makes our lives easy and comfortable.
Do you know what it's like camping?
Of course, we use wood to burn the fire, we have our camping gear
and we are with Mother earth. Right?
Away from the city, the town wherever you may live
you are without the technology you need to survive.
But, you do have the necessities to survive, which are the basic's.
Enough for your camping.
Well, imagine that being your way of life, living off from the land.
You have light twelve hours of the day, (free of charge)
you have light and heat from your fire. Also, you can use it to cook your meals.
You have food everywhere.. it all depends where you look.
Basic Survival... that is what it is...
The World is filled with Forests, and water...
neither can survive without the other.
We breath oxygen, therefore we need
water and the forests.
The circle of life can not be broken, or altered
since what we have is, after all is what we need to survive with.
In Northern Quebec, there is a place called Kujjuarapik, (Great Whale).
This Village, has two different dominant Nationalites,
the Cree and the Inuit.
Both, live off the Land, the very basic necessities
are surrounding the village.
Alot of People were born there, grew up there and live there.
Since the "White man" came into contact with the Natives from Northern Quebec,
there has been alot of changes, let's just say, catching up with the rest of the world.
It's not all negative,Native people are evolving too,
but just as the rest of the world
keep their "History" in books,
Native people pass on their "Culture"
to descendants.
By word of mouth and teachings.
The rest is put down in "History" books to make aware of the History of Native Peoples.
Written down on paper by a Non-native in a "civil" manner, for Non-Native's to understand.
Why do I say it that way?,
Well, Some American's to this day, still think that all Canadians live in
igloo's.
Why is that? Because Canada is a Cold climate area?...
No. Because" History" has left a mark
and today where"History" left of, was from an old dictation
written down from someone(Non-Native) who visited the natives at that time...
Also, alot of "History" itself
from the Native people,
has not been told or passed down due to the "catching up" with the rest of the world.
Some of the surviving stories that have been told
have been written down by Natives
or by some Non-Native people.
For the very survival of the
Nationality for the Native People.
Only those that can be told, are dictated to you through old history books,
and the rest is by word of mouth.
Right now, the Natives
are fighting to keep their livelyhood, so that they don't disappear from the earth.
Just as you are not quick to give up your computer or your car,
they too are not as quick to give up their land.
The Land is essential to the Native People in Northern Quebec.
Your Computer and Car is essential to you right?,
you need them for work to make a living right?
Well, imagine those taken away from you
and replaced with monthly fixed allowence. Imagine trying to keep
your family alive without those. It's not enough is it?
The Land is enough for the Native People to survive with,
it has always been for as long as they have been there.
Since "the whiteman" came into contact, they've been wanting to take that Land
and make more "man-made" dams for their hydro project,
which is a big dam to make more electricity for the
American's for more money... Business, that is what that is, making more money...
And does any of that come back to the Native's?
NO! If so, the housing would be alot better,
there would be alot
of tourist's from all over the world,
you would have already known Native people for who they are.
You would'nt need the old history books to
learn about them right?
Well, there you have it, somewhere along the way,
Native People got the short end of the stick.
Phase I of the Hydro project destroyed the wild life
and cut alot of livelyhood for the Natives,
but they were
compensated with money, money that is old and running out.
Imagine been given something else to survive with
that you don't need and that is always running out. It's of
no use to you in the long run.
The economy is always changing and we always have to keep up
with the changes that occur,
Well,Native People have been surviving on the Land
for years and never ran out of supplies for survival.
Phase II has been proposed to the Natives
and this time around the answer is crystal clear as your
drinking water....
NO!!!... What's the problem?
Well, it seems like it's all about money... for the Native's?
No, of course not, for business of "Hydro Quebec",
to be the biggest company to provide electricity for
the American's... It's all about business...
It's a shame how some Nationalities lose their identities,
their culture for some other culture's.
It's a shame that no-one seems to want to work together to save the earth...
We all dream of peace throughout the world but there seems to be none,
Why? economy, religion, and to be most dominant culture on earth ...
Aborigional People are peaceful,
they share, they help eachother and they are in all trying to keep
Mother Earth from falling apart.
In the News, you see and hear of the Global warming,
Well, that's Mother Earth telling you that she is
sick, and needs to be taken care of,
it's not going to change over night
or in a couple of months or in a
few short years..
Why do you think Nasa is trying to find another planet just like earth?
Because, Mother earth and humans will not survive on a polluted atmosphere.
We all have dreams in our lives,
we all have a goal in our lives and we all do live in one
place and that is what we call "Earth"...
Do your share and do what is right, help if you can
and make a difference...
I hope that, in what I have shared with you
is something that is news
to you, it's not about being the vicitim
and feeling sorry for Aborigional People, it's about
being aware of the "Planet Earth" that we all live in.
Word of mouth goes along way and does
make a difference,if there is silence, it's because we are not aknowledging reality.
And that is my friend,
Aborigionals all over the world
is fighting to keep the survival of the planet
as well as the very survival of us humans..... Knowledge is Power, and
if we can give the acknowledgment to the unknown
we can make a huge difference...
