A Common Crime
A Common Crime

Once your bones form,
they're ready to break,
You must have a heart
for you've stolen his,

As far as we've been,
We long to go home,
We can't find a way though,
we've travelled alone,

Why did no one warn the child
that to free a dove is to
send it out into a sea of cages?
A common bond among the ages,

Leaving the nest is nothing for free,
You've broken his wings by setting him free,
Why did you tell him to fly without wings,
If all that is born is meant to be free?

The keeper of the birds is the reaper of the heart,
Time and time again he'll save us,
He holds the key yet mends the cages,
A common bond among the ages,

They torture his mind and disguise their fool,
To live in this world you must follow the rule,
That chains may be cold but they keep us warm,
Our castles are cages and we're kings in our world,

To heal in my heart
I must first learn to feel,
But now that I'm dying
I can only forgive,

And more than I know
I long for the home
that is farther away
each day that i grow,

Why did no one warn the child
that to free a dove is to
send it out into a sea of cages,
A common crime among the faceless,

How he functions like broken machines,
To burn all his bridges, setting birds free,
Lets gather stones and build a new bridge,
Pride is denial, we've come to the edge,

To live in this world
you must learn how to kill,
To be free from yourself,
abandon your will,

Those who have made it
are heroes of greed,
Those who haven't
are ashamed to be free.

(save the child,
run to the well,
you'll never make it,
the look in his eyes.)
