Athene models a horse in clay

Athene models a horse on a Red Figure painting on an Attic vase in Berlin Antiquarium:

Epeius made the horse with the help of Athene (Aeneid 2.15)

Here she works alone in the workshop of Epeius, with his carpenter's tools hanging on the wall, modelling in clay. She has almost finished - apart from the nose and a hind leg.

In front of the base, on which the model stands, is a lump of unused clay.

The tools suggest that this is a clay model which Epeius will replicate in wood.
