Participants are introduced to the fundamentals, theories and drills of Modern DAnce. Training involves emphasis on inner state and its reflection in the body. Modern Dance develops the human body into an instrument that is capable of expressing and and all aspects of human behavior. The curriculum highlights actions, rhythms and quality of movement coming from dramatic situations, improvisations and the inner self. Emphasis is on discovering how the human body moves in its "natural" state and the exploring every part of the body and its unlimited possibilities. Combinations and routines develop agility, deftness and stamina. "Contractions" and "releases" develop torso strength and quick percussive, rhythmic movements build speed and dexterity. Class workout includes activities that expand stretch, resiliency, endurance, suppleness, body awareness and cultivate appreciative viewing of all forms of dance. (Elective, 2 hrs.)
