INTRO TO MUSICAL THEATRE

This class ovvers the beginning student an introduction to the style and form of the Musical Theatre. The course will examine how music and lyrics function as an extension of the script and assist in developing plotline and characterization. A variety of styles and periods in Musical Theatre will be covered ranging from "Oklahoma!" to "Rent". Legendary composers like Gershwin and Cole Porter will be studied and compared with modern Musical Theatre icons such as Cy Coleman and Stephen Sondheim. (Elective, 2 hrs.)
