ACCELERATED PROGRAM
»
Observing, learning and respecting "process" is the goal of this program designed for the Advanced Actor. As students participate in the rehearsal and production process of a full-length straight play they begin to develop ensemble playing skills which allow for a deeper sense of commitment to the "process" of the work. The program culminates in a production of a contemporary straight play where, through the study of character objectives, on-stage communication, imagination, and stable concentration, students discover new ways to lead themselves to a natural emotional state when performing.
The YPW Accelerated Program offers students an invaluable opportunity to explore "process" and is an outlet to work in a manner that will enable him/her to understand the meaning of each of the roles in the play and the nature of their relationships. Play construction and examination of the "Hero's Journey" based on the works of Joseph Campbell gives insight to playwright objectives and lends a comprehension to the actors job in relationship to the script.
Once students begin to understand and recognize "process", they acquire a freedom that enables an interaction of body and soul, of actions and emotions; a path where the external helps the internal and the internal prompts the external of the character they are bringing to life. The student emerges with a stronger grasp on "process" that can be used successfully to breathe life into any role or play. Enrollment is limited and by invitation only.
