Impoverished as a child, Wilson Fisk committed his first murder
when he was 12 years old. From the start, Fisk was determined
to be the best at whatever he did. Because he believed physical
strength would help him amass power in the underworld, he
fanatically studied various forms of bodybuilding and personal
combat -- finally concentrating on the Japanese art of sumo.
Fisk educated himself by stealing books from stores and libraries,
taking a particular interested in political science. He decided
another key to success would be the use of political techniques
to organize and direct groups of criminals. The
Kingpin takes pleasure in physical combat with his enemies,
but knows he can never allow himself to be connected to his
crimes. Consequently, Fisk has never been convicted of any
wrongdoing. Even when jailed for personally stealing an ancient
tablet from Empire State University, charges were dropped
due to lack of evidence. After
years waging a private war, Daredevil managed to topple the
Kingpin from the summit of the East Coast organized-crime
scene with the aid of S.H.I.E.L.D. But Fisk vowed to climb
back up the mountain, and has since returned to New York after
resuming his criminal activities in Japan -- the first step
