Main Courses!

Page Updated: 5-18-2013

On this page I will have several Main course recipes that are good for about any occasion. With an exception on some of the dishes may contain expensive ingredients. Meaning it will be costly so be prudent with your wallet. We were and they are still good. If you eat this all by itself it will still be so good but your waistline may hate you. Lol.

I have decided to put all the recipes on one giant web page to reduce confusion for me. Each recipe will be labeled at the top of the page and clicking on the recipe will take you to that recipe. I forget what type of html that is but I used it in my book which is handy.

Disclaimer:
I have gathered these recipes for *coughs* decades and as such even if they look like some person's recipe with a copyright, well I have years of using this recipe. Most of them I found by going to tasting teas and visiting family members, none of these recipes as far as I know came from any book. I have used these recipes many times and where necessary I will tell you what product I used for a successful dish.

Main Courses

Stromboli

1 Loaf of frozen bread dough (thawed)
1 Tbl. grated, Parmesan cheese (fresh is best)
2 Eggs (separated)
1 Tsp. Parsley
1/2 Tsp. Garlic Powder
1 Tsp. Oregano
1/2 Tsp. Pepper
2 Tbl. Olive oil
1/2 lb. thinly sliced ham
6 oz. Provolone cheese
6 oz. Mozzarella cheese
Sesame seeds (optional)

Preheat oven to 350ºF.

Thaw 1 loaf of the frozen bread dough (they come in packages of two or three loafs) OR make your own I am trying fresh bread dough next time. Mix together Parmesan cheese, 2 Egg yolks, parsley, garlic powder, oregano, pepper, and olive oil. Spread the thawed dough until it is approximately 12"x12" in size. Spread the mixture over the bread dough. Cover the mixture in layers of ham, provolone and mozzarella cheeses. Roll up like a jelly roll and pinch the dough till it sticks and seals it closed. Place seam side down on slightly greased cookie sheet. Brush with egg whites and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or golden brown. Slice in at least 2" slices and serve with Marinara sauce, or we used spaghetti sauce.

I made three different ones.
1.) Black Forest ham, Deli peperoni, Provolone (we used sharp cheddar) and Mozzarella.
2.) Sausage (your favorite, we used Jimmydean regular), Deli peperoni, Parmesan cheese, Mozzarella.
3.) Black Forest ham, peperoni,Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses.
Note: Some of the meats can be expensive so don't forget you can use any type of deli-meats including turkey or chicken. We wanted to try the roast beef but decided to wait till the next time. So try your favorite meats. Cheeses can also be expensive. I chose not to use one type of cheese based on price. Though I did use fresh Parmesan cheese rather than the type most people buy to sprinkle on their pizza. The men loved the sausage loaf we made. I also used the Dinette cake recipe on my Desserts page to accompany the main course. Yummy.
