>> the darwin engine was established in 2000 by matt schaefer, drummer of the band lift, as a musical outlet for his erratic and extreme thought patterns. the music of the darwin engine is very heavy and rhythmic, and the melodies contrast heavily between disturbingly dissonant and pleasantly uplifting. matt is the only permanent member of the darwin engine (playing drums, guitar, bass, keyboards, percussion, singing, and making random noises), although occasionally he calls on others to make appearances.

>> the darwin engine released the debut album, "aftermath of the eclipse" in march of 2002. A second release in 2002 was the "Sonic Apothecary EP". currently, the darwin engine is writing new music for the next album, entitled "a new gilded age". Look for this album to be released in Summer 2003.
