Terkessa Scott
2003 Tau Beta Sigma SWD Presidential Candidate

My name is Terkessa Scott. I am currently your SWD Secretary/Treasurer. This year at the Southwest District Convention, I will be running for the District Presidency position. I am writing you today to let you know a little about myself.

I graduated from Osceola High as a special honor graduate in 1997. I began my college education at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) two weeks after my graduation. During my years at UCA, I have been a member of the band program. I joined the Gamma Tau chapter of Tau Beta Sigma on March 12, 2000. Ever since then, I feel my life has been the fullest.

I am very active in my chapter. I am currently serving my second term as the chapter’s president. Last year’s convention is one of my best memories since I have been in the sorority--the district chose me to be the next Secretary/Treasurer. I vowed to you all, during the question and answer session last year, that I knew that I would represent our district to the best of my ability, and I feel I have done just that and more!

I have commented to you all in the past two mail outs that being in this office has been a blast, literally. The past year has inspired me to want to continue to have a blast at the district level. I have been very observant and attentive to what the district wants, and I know how to go about getting it done in an orderly fashion.

True enough, I have heard throughout these past 3 years, we need to better our communications. We, as a district, need to come together and communicate better. That cannot be achieved unless each individual chapter does it too. Over the years, communication has improved drastically. We are constantly coming up with ideas that we can implement within our district to continue the improvement of communication among the district because it just can’t happen overnight.

If fortune should favor me, and I become your next district president, I would like to add my idea to assist with the improvement of communication within the Southwest District. My plan is to have the whole district’s input on the SWD website calendar. I feel that if we let everyone know what’s going on within our individual chapters, through the calendar, it will cut down on costs of mailings for each chapter and make people more aware that our website is important year round and not just when it's time for area workshops and conventions. In respect to all being important year round, I plan to be the one who gets the wheels turning for our own district listserv. In conclusion, it may seem that there will be a lot of work set out for my self and the district council next year. But to me, it isn’t work, it's SERVICE to our district.

If you have any questions for me before district convention, please feel free to email me .

I look forward to seeing you all in Waco this weekend!!!
