Shots around the Garden
The garden's present state of reasonable tidiness belies the amount of work that has gone into it. Ruth's friend Roger has built the stone surround to the cess-pit and found us an old wagon wheel to cap it off. He also removed extensive undergrowth from the front perimeter, thereby extending the lawn by some five metres, or so.
The well had to re-opened by removal of stones to a depth of some four mertres. The 'lawns' were rough paddocks, but constant mowing has eliminated most of the weeds and the grass is now dominant. Wherever we dug the were copius quantities of iron, old vehicles and farm implements, not to mention wine bottles and other glass.
The five-bar gate in the rear wall came from Alderholt, Dorset on the roof rack of the elderly rover 820. just about her last trip to France. The wall still needs quite a little rebuilding to fill the gaps.
We now have a boules pitch and the old hanger has recently been moved and upgraded to make a very nice boys workshop. The back garden now gets used as the sports pitch for football, cricket and badminton or table tennis. The front garden has a number of different fruit trees. We are also trying to grow a nice hedge between the garden and the field.
