Our numbers are up from last year. You did a great job on them and your hard work pays off. T-Shirts Anyone? We have t-shirts left from our awards programs. If you would like one they are $5 each as long as they last. They are bright green and will be nice for summer wear at Camp. Performing Arts (Share the Fun) The next county competitive event is the Performing Arts competition, Saturday, February15, at UACCB campus, in Independence Hall, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The pre-registration deadline will be February 13th - entries after that will have a 5 point penalty. There will be a 5 point penalty for not pre-registering by the February 13th deadline.
We have major changes from last year. These changes are from our state office and are printed in the 4-H ORAMA Competitive Activity book. There will no longer be Celebrate 4-H - Skits. Only the following Performing Arts categories will be held. All will have Cloverbud, Junior, and Senior divisions. They are:
Benefits of Performing Arts are: Assist 4-H members in discovering and developing their talents. Develop 4-H members’ appreciation for talent and the performing arts. Develop poise, confidence, and performance skills of 4-H members. Encourage 4-H members to pursue special or formal training to further develop their talents. County winners in Junior and Senior Divisions will compete at the Regional O’Rama, in Jonesboro, June 27th at Jonesboro High School. The top three senior acts per District will be eligible to participate at State O’Rama. This contest does NOT include Gymnastics, baton twirling, dramatic readings, poetry, skits, pantomimes or comedy routines. An act is limited to five minutes without penalty. An act may have up to eight 4-H members. All members of an act must be in the same age group (Cloverbud, Junior or Senior). Vocal Vocal may consist of solo, duet, trio, etc. but No pantomimes will be allowed. Please note that records or tapes with vocal utterances are allowed but should not overpower the voice of the performer. If, in the opinion of the judges, the vocal utterances are overpowering, the performer will be penalized or disqualified. The decision of the judges is final. 4-H’ers should be prepared to introduce their number by giving the title of the piece they will perform. Instrumental Classical / Non-Classical Classical - Includes jazz and music in the classic European tradition such as chamber music, opera and symphony. No singing or vocal utterances will be allowed with instrumental. Accompaniment is allowed; however, this must assume the pure character of accompaniment. The test is whether the performance would stand alone if the accompaniment were removed.. Non-Classical - Contemporary music, country western, popular, rock. No singing or vocal utterances, etc. Dance Arts / Popular Dance Dance Arts: Tap, ballet, square dance, and clogging. Popular Dance: Butterfly, Tootsie Roll, Percolator, and Modern Jazz. Break dancing is allowed, but no acrobatics, gymnastics, and baton twirling.
Junior Camp Ferndale RES-Q Camp and Magic Springs / Crystal Falls $25 deposit due February 20th We’re still working on some of the details but it looks like the total cost of the Junior camp will be around $100. So .....
Main leaders may attend for ½ the total cost. One parent may receive the same cost as their child. Additional parents will pay full price. The trip includes lodging, and meals during the ResQ Camp and admission into Magic Springs & Crystal Falls (Hot Springs) on Friday. Cloverbuds may go if a parent or guardian accompanies them.
Senior Camp Branson, MO Senior 4-H Camp will be in Branson. We are planning to leave on June 2nd and return June 4th. It’s been several years since we’ve been to Branson as a 4-H group. There’s a lot to do and we plan to have FUN. We hope you can go. We’ll be BUSY taking in a couple of shows and going to some fun and interesting places. Arrangements are not complete but will let you know more in the February news. Main leaders may attend for ½ price, or if two go they each get 1/4 the cost paid. If the main leader isn’t going, they can designate one replacement adult. All other adults will pay full price.
Chickens for Fairs It’s time to sign up for Poultry projects this year. If you’re interested in chickens for Buffalo Island, County Fair Layers, County Fair Broilers, State Spring Show, State Fair Broilers or Turkeys, let us know by February 5th. Each batch will cost $15 but that money will be refunded if the chickens are shown at the fair they were bought for. The pickup date for Buffalo Island is February 15th, and the State Spring Show pick up will be the last week of March. Attention Livestock Exhibitors - Pasture Steer Show We’re introducing an all-new livestock show class for the County Fair. The new class will consist of steers that can be bought or picked from your own pasture. This steer show will consist of three stages, the first stage will be a average daily gain award given to the steer who gains the most over the feeding period, the second stage will consist of the steer being showed at the County Fair, The Final stage will be a carcass contest. The overall champion steer will be selected based on the three stages above.

The ultimate responsibility for marketing the met relies on the exhibitor, but we will help market in any way that we can. The processing charge will be 30 cents per pound with no kill fee. Crowley's Ridge Classic Livestock Show - March 8th Independence County Spring Livestock Show The Livestock Show will be held on March 30th. Events Packets and O'Rama Packets New and updated Arkansas 4-H Event packet and O’Rama packets are on leaders stacks and need to be picked up. These should be picked up by Main Leaders only. All state activities and guidelines that are available in 4-H can be found in this packet. Livestock Judging, Anyone? If so this is the opportunity for you. There will be a reorganization of the Livestock Judging team on February 6th, at the County Extension Office, 6:00 p.m., in the conference room.
