Organized in July 21, 1861 in Pine Bluff, the Regiment camped at the property of Mr. Lee in the White Sulphur Springs Community and so named it Camp Lee. The unit was there from late July until it departure for Memphis in late August 1861.

Company "A" , "Jefferson Minute-Men", was organized at Byrd Springs, Jefferson County, Arkansas, on February 25, 1862, with the election of James C. Thompson, captain.

Company "D", "Pine Buff Rebels" , was organized at Pine Bluff, Jefferson County, Arkansas, on March 1, 1862, with the election of Read Fletcher, captain.

Company "K", "Jefferson Rifles", was organized at Pine Bluff, Jefferson County, Arkansas, on February 22, 1862, with the election of David W. Carroll, captain. The 18th Arkansas Infantry was organized at DeValls Bluff, Arkansas, on April 2, 1862, composed of ten volunteer companies from central Arkansas, By the elections of David W. Carroll from Pine Bluff, as Colonel.

19TH (DAWSON'S) ARKANSAS INFANTRY REGIMENT

Col Charles E. Dawson cmdg

Arrived at Camp White Sulphur Springs in mid June 1862, from Oklahoma. Took part in recruitment and induction of conscripts in Southeastern AR., and operated against Union forces along the White River. It was reorganized in August of 1862 and combined with the newly formed 24th Arkansas Infantry and Crawford's Battalion to form Dawson's Brigade, in a Camp of instruction under the command of Col Robert Glenn Shaver at Camp Shaver's at White Sulphur Springs. This brigade was reassigned under the Command of Col Thomas Dunnington and ordered to Arkansas Post, Sept 28, 1862.

24th ARKANSAS INFANTRY REGIMENT

Col Edward E. Portlock, cmdg.

Organized At Camp White Sulphur Springs/Camp Shaver's in Aug 1862 from conscripts , independent companies, and recruits from the Dawson's 19th Arkansas in Regiment. It was assigned with The 19th Arkansas and Crawford's Battalion into a Brigade with Col Charles Dawson in Command. Left Sept. 28th, 1862 with this brigade when that brigade was assigned to the defense of Arkansas Post.

While At Camp Shaver's the 24th Arkansas suffered the heaviest known number of casualties due to disease, losing 1 out of every 10 men.

HART'S BATTERY (DALLAS) ARKANSAS LIGHT ARTILLERY

Hart's Battery was reconstituted on August 1, 1862, at Camp White Sulphur Springs, Arkansas. Few of the members of the original Dallas Artillery rejoined the second organization. The battery was augmented with a large number of unassigned recruits from depots at Monticello and Little Rock, and transfers from several Arkansas regiments, especially the 24th Arkansas Infantry. Assigned to Garland's Brigade of Texas Infantry and left About September 20, 1862.

6TH (GARLAND'S) TEXAS INFANTRY REGIMENT

Col Robert R. Garland cmdg

Arrived at Camp White Sulphur Springs August 11, 1862 from Camp Garland, a camp of instruction located on the Saline River near Benton, Arkansas, where it had been stationed since mid July. It became the central unit for Garland's Brigade of Texas Infantry made up of the 6th Texas Infantry, the 24th Texas Cavalry (dismounted), the 25th Texas Cavalry (dismounted), and Hart's Battery of Light Artillery. This brigade left Camp Holmes/Camp White Sulphur Springs about Sept 20, 1862 and was assigned to the defense of the area around Fort Hindman/Arkansas Post.

        Arrived at Camp White Sulphur Springs with the 21st Texas Cavalry from Shreveport LA. about July 17, 1862.  It was dismounted there under Special Order #26 dated July 10, 1862 of Major General Thomas C. Hindman. It was then assigned, as Infantry, to the command of  Col. Robert R. Garland, a veteran pre-war U.S. Army captain, along with the 6th Texas Infantry, upon their arrival at Camp White Sulphur Springs, to form Garland's Texas Brigade.  It left Camp White Sulphur Springs - Camp Holmes about Sept 20, 1862, when the brigade was ordered to Fort Hindman at Arkansas Post.

27th ARKANSAS INFANTRY REGIMENT

    First organized as a regiment of mounted partisans in June of 1862 from independant companys in Northeast Arkansas. It was dismounted under general Order # 26, July 10, 1863, of Major General Thomas C. Hindman.  It was sent to Pine Bluff in December and January of 1862/83 in the effort to relieve Arkansas Post January 11, 1863.  It was again in Pine Bluff in April 1863 to take part in the campaign into northern Louisiana to relieve Vicksburg, Mississippi.  Some of it's sick and wounded were sent back to Pine Bluff during this campaign. It returned to Pine Bluff during August 1863 from Monroe Louisiana on their way to Little Rock shortly before the Battle there September 10, 1863.
