Branding doesn't necessarily have to follow a collaring. Many kajirae submit to a branding at a later date. Where collaring is a serious commitment, branding is the final act of submission and total surrender for a Gorean slave girl. The slave may be released from her collar, she can take on a new name, perhaps too, a new owner. Where as with a brand, binding her to the owner of the brand, it *is* completely forever! A brand is not something one can easily remove. The brand style may vary, from the common slave brands of the cursive Gorean letter K (Kef),

the slave flower Dina or the Tuchucks standard brand of a pair of Bosk Horns, or a more unique custom brand of the Owner. There have been brands that were of wolves, eagles in flight, ornate letters, ... even a shining bright sun. Offline brands, however, are best kept relatively simple, the more complex or intricate the design, the more chance there is of having it turning out to be nothing more than an ugly, indistinguishable blob. A kajira is usually strapped to the branding rack, her arms and legs are then tightly secured, her left thigh is bound securely and firmly, preventing her from the slightest of movements, thus ensuring a good, clean brand.the branding iron would be heated in a brazier, and when glowing red, the slave's Owner would apply it to the slave's inner left thigh, pausing it there for a count of three, then quickly withdrawing and lifting it cleanly away. Traditionally, the slave is permitted to scream out loudly once... this is the last time she would be permitted to do so. If there are slave attendants at the branding, they would be instructed to quickly tend to the fresh brand, applying healing salves and any needed dressings.

From the Scrolls
"Pick her up in ten Ehn, at the front entrance," said the slaver's man to the prospective buyer. "She will be branded." The man nodded, and turned away smiled to myself at the artifice involved in this transaction. The sale, technically, would not take place until after the young woman was branded i watched her being carried out through a side entrance. i wondered if she knew she was being carried to the iron. this lot of barbarians, which i guessed as being in the area of neighborhood of seventy or eighty girls, had been, as nearly as I could determine, delivered late last night or this morning. Even now the majority of them had not been marked. This was a function, of course, of the brief amount of time they had been in the possession of Ram Seibar.it takes time to bring an iron to branding heat and the iron of course, its head sinking and searing, burning, into the girl's flesh, marking her, loses heat rapidly. A given iron, accordingly, must be reheated before being reapplied. This situation is further complicated by the fact that the iron, normally, is cleaned following each application, a procedure which further reduces the heat. The cleaning is important for the precision and clarity of the next marking. Thus, in effect, each girl is marked with a new, fresh iron. The Most common brand site in a Gorean slave girl is the outer side of the left thigh, closely beneath the hip. In this brand site the identificatory mark is thus placed high enough to be covered by the brief cloth of a common slave tunic and is available for convenient and immediate inspection if the tunic is lifted. The time it takes to brand several women can be reduced by the common expedient of heating several irons, but most iron masters will not work with more than two or three irons at a given time.

Most girls wear their brands on the left thigh, where they may be conveniently caressed by the right-handed master. Some girls, on the other hand, are right-thigh branded. Some too, though very few, are branded on the lower left abdomen. Page 147-Fighting Slave of Gor

"I could, of course, examine your thighs, your lower left abdomen, your body generally," I said. The thighs and the lower left abdomen are the brand sites recommended by Merchant Law. Masters, of course, may brand a girl wherever they please. She is theirs. Sometimes brands are placed on the left side of the neck, on the left calf, the interior of the left heel, and on the inside of the left forearm. The customary brand site, incidentally, is high on the left thigh. That is the site almost invariably utilized in marking Gorean kajirae. Page 349-Fighting Slave of Gor
