COMMANDO COMICS HISTORY

In the early 1960's the English comic companies wanted to start targeting older markets for their comics.
They started printing titles like AIR ACE PICTURE LIBRARY 1960 and WAR AT SEA PICTURE LIBRARY 1962 and also the well-known WAR PICTURE LIBRARY in 1964.
COMMANDO comics were released in 1961 they were started in this rush of war comics.
With the title of COMMANDO WAR STORIES IN PICTURES D.C THOMSON & CO published these little comic books non-stop starting with 2 a month and then later boosting it to 4 issues a month.
In 1989 a attachment staff to THOMSON &CO printed their first colour COMMANDO ANNUAL.
And a second ANNUAL in 1990 but they where badly coloured and did not sell well so no more issues where made.
In 1993 with issue No.2691 THOMSON &CO changed the name of commando comics to COMMANDO FOR ACTION AND ADVENTURE the reason for this change is still unknown.
But commando comics are still printed to this day you can find them in most countries of the world and most people that read them love them with numbers going into the 3000's and more it seems likely they will never end.
